Yesterday morning, at least two of us on the 3700 block of 48th Avenue NE found that our cars had been entered during the night.
My car was parked in our driveway. The glove box was open and contents left on the seat. Missing from the box in the console were two charging cords for cell phones, and a tin of coins. Missing from the back was my rolling suitcase that serves as my gym bag, and two pink 3-pound weights.
My next door neighbor had much more damage to her car parked on the street.
On July 20th, we think we left the doors unlocked to our Toyota Highlander, but it was cleaned out during the night while parked in front of our house on 45th Avenue NE, above West Laurelhurst Drive.
It was literally cleaned out, they took everything out of it, down to a cardboard box full of grocery bags.
I will file a police report, but lots of this stuff has little value, so it seems possible that someone could find it discarded somewhere nearby:
- Owners manual for 2014 Toyota Highlander (in a zippered folio with registration, etc)
- 2 Bubble Bums (portable car booster seats)
- A box of bags
- A bocce ball set
- Various gift cards (Red Robbin, QFC, Safeway, Shell, Met Market)
- Electric tire have
- Windshield wipers
- Spot it (round card game)
- Etc

Our car was also prowled on the same night on 45th Avenue NE, just north of NE 45th Street. Many of the similar things were taken, including gift cards, etc. It was not items of much value.
Our car must have been left unlocked as well. The gift cards someone found several days later matched the stuff that was taken out.
We live on the 3800 block and 42nd Avenue NE and on 5/18 about 3:45pm, there were two African American males in their early 20's looking into our car.
My husband opened the door and confronted them and they ran towards NE 41st Street and 42nd Avenue.
At approximately 4:45 pm, we heard a car alarm go off at our neighbors across the street just south of us.
My husband didn't call police because nothing had been done to his car.
On Tuesday, December 1st, my car was broken into on the 4400 block of 55th Avenue NE.
Unfortunately, for us, the car was left unlocked in literally the only time we have not locked it. My husband had unloaded Costco groceries for me, and he thought he'd seen me locking up. So neither of us locked up.
Eerie as it leads me to believe people are sweeping nightly for unlocked doors. Couldn't just be dumb luck.
A new pair of $150 sunglasses, old lip glosses and chap stick were taken. Luckily they missed the nice pair of skis and boots that were in the back.
I reported the incident to the Laurelhurst Private Security Patrol, as we subscribe to that and pay our dues. I did not file a police report as minimal was taken.
A young girl was turning left onto 48th Avenue NE from NE 44th. There is a yield sign at that corner. Another car was driving on 48th towards NE 45th.
Visibility is poor from the NE 44th corner. The girl said she didn’t see the other driver coming. It could be that he was going too fast or maybe she didn’t yield.
Police were on the scene and tow trucks arrived. The first tow truck driver swept up the glass on the street.
It was extremely fortunately that the girl was not seriously injured. Her side airbag deployed. She knew instinctively to bend her head and tuck—something I never knew.
