Story Of Popular Neighborhood Cat Near Beach Club

The Laurelhurst Blog received this information:

Some readers may remember the friendly black-and-white cat with the handsome “mustache,” who, in November 1988, wandered away from his home at what is now Sun Park and eventually found sanctuary at St. Stephen’s Chapel.
For the next 18 years, the handsome young “tuxedo” cat was a valued member of our household.
On pleasant summer evenings, he loved to hang out by the sidewalk on NE 41st Street and greet Beach Club-goers and neighbors out for a stroll.
I don’t know if his birth family, the Murphys, still live in Laurelhurst.

Two Black Cats Found And Taken To Animal Shelter

The Laurelhurst Blog Staff received this email:

Two healthy appearing juvenile male all black cats showed up at our house near NE Surber Drive and 42nd Avenue NE on November 12th. They had no collars, but look too healthy to be strays.
We have since taken them to the Seattle Animal Shelter in Interbay and were told they will be available for adoption soon. The Animal Shelter said that they were probably dumped in the neighborhood.
My daughter posted on the NE Seattle Moms Yahoo group and got no response.

Grey Tabby Cat Seen Near Boulevard Yesterday

We received this email:
I saw a grey and tan tabby cat hanging out in our alley between 42nd and 43rd Avenues NE yesterday.
He/she does not have a collar.  This isn't the same one you posted about recently. I wish it was because the one in our area is dining on birds.  No wonder she doesn't want to go home.

The cat was also seen near Laurelhurst Elementary School yesterday.

About The Orange Tabby Cat Hanging Around The Streets Near The Elementary School For Last Week Or So

We've received several emails asking about the orange tabby cat that has been seen roaming around the vicinity of Laurelhurst Elementary School and even inside the school. Residents on 46th, 47th and 48th Avenues NE have reported seeing him and some even letting the very friendly cat in their home.

Neighbors thought it could be Topaz, a similar looking cat with no collar, that is often seen roaming the streets around the school for the last few years. However other neighbors thought it wasn't, as the  cat seemed smaller that the well-known Topaz.

The puzzle was solved when the Laurelhurst Elementary School Office contacted the owners of Topaz, who lives on 47th Avenue NE on Monday, and confirmed it was indeed their cat and the same cat being let into others homes and who even went inside the school. ,

The office said "It seems that when the cat doesn’t get put indoors when the family is gone all day, it roams the neighborhood looking for company."

Another neighbor said that at least the cat never got hit by cars with all its roaming around so much and that she is happy Topaz is home now getting food and back with its owners.
