Sunday Farmers Market Feast At Center For Urban Horticulture

The Seattle Neighborhood Farmers Market is holding their "Incredible Feast" on Sunday at the Center for Urban Horticulture.

The information says:

Join us from 5-8pm for our extremely popular annual fundraiser featuring over fifteen of Seattle’s best and most innovative chefs, paired with market farmers to create an incredible feast of unique and delicious bites, showcasing fresh farm ingredients. PLUS: local breweries, wineries, lovely music, carnival style games and a fabulous silent auction.

UDistrict 47th annual Street Fair And Farmers Market This Week-end



This week-end the 47th annual University District Street Fair is happening on University Way below 50th Avenue NE. 

And on Saturdays year round from 9-2pm, the University District Farmers Market is also going on  with dozens of local farm and artisan food vendors.  It is also located on University Way between 50th and 52nd Avenues NE.
 
Over 55 one hour parking spots are available in the north and south lots of U-Heights Center just west of the market.
 
In June of last year the Rachael Ray show visited the UDistrict Farmers Market.

Make A Wreath At University District Farmers Market on Saturday

The University District Farmers Market, closest one to the neighborhood, is having a special event on Saturday from 10-1 called "Holiday Wreath and Swag Making. The Farmers Market is open year round and is located between  50th and 52nd Avenues NE and University Way.

The information says:

Make your own holiday swag or wreath using fresh local prunings and other holiday decorations provided for free! Live music from the fabulous folk duo, Squirrel Butter and free hot cider from Rockridge Orchards. 

We need volunteers to help spread holiday cheer during this event and make swags for U-District Food Bank recipients. If you are interested in volunteering, please email Anna Sparks at anna@seattlefarmersmarket.org for more info.

UDistrict Farmers Market On Ave Starting Saturday

 

Starting on Saturday, the U-District Farmers Market, held from 9-2pm, will move to its new location on University Way between NE 50^th Street and NE 52^nd Street. 

The U-District Farmers Market has been located on the south playfield of University Heights Center since 1993. But recent plans for a new City park have forced the Farmers Market to move so that it can continue to support over 100 small farms and independent food businesses who set up there.

Saturday will also be the anuual AppleLooza, an apple celebration includes a huge apple tasting, free apple recipes, cider samples, and lots of information about the many apple varieties grown by local farmers.

City Hall Open House Tomorrow

Tomorrow from 10-2pm the Mayor is holding an Open House at City Hall (601 5th Avenue).

The agenda will include:

• tours of the Mayor’s Office and City Council Offices
• question and answer session with the Mayor
• workshops on the legislative process and interpreting credit reports
• tabling by City departments and the City Attorney’s Office
• live music
• a farmer’s market
• food
• oppportunity to learn about resources the City provides
• meeting local elected officials
• connecting with opportunities to make community a better place

 

Family Concert Tomorrow Morning During UDistrict Farmers Market

A reader sent us this information about a family friendly concert happening during the University District Farmers Market tomorrow morning.

The concerts are held weekly through October and is an "all-ages outdoor concert series featuring live, local feel-good, family friendly music celebrating the diversity of musicians in the U District, Seattle and Greater Seattle area."

The information says: "Stop by on a Saturday, visit the center & farmers market, grab some lunch from organic food vendors, let the kids hit the playground or learn an activity at our children's table. Or just stop by and listen to our talented Artists."

Tomorrow's line-up is:

• The Winterlings 10-11:30am
• Smoke Wreck Kings 11:45am-12:30pm
• The Barker Boys 12:45-2pm

Farmers Market Thanksgiving Dinner Contest

Are you an avid Thanksgiving Dinner Cook?

The Farmers Market has a contest going on you might want to check out. It's called the "Eat Local for Thanksgiving" Farmers Market Thanksgiving Dinner contest. You must cook a feast using ingredients found at local farmers markets.

"This contest is for amateur cooks, and 'delicious' does not necessarily mean complex or elaborate. However, as much as possible, everything from the wine to the centerpiece should be sourced directly from local farms at the Broadway, U-District and/or West Seattle Farmers Markets.

This is a fabulous opportunity for you (and your cohorts) to get creative in the kitchen and support local farmers in the process - and inspire others to think about what it means to "eat local." This is also a great opportunity for you to help your friends, family and neighbors to remember your local farmers markets throughout the holidays and the chilly months ahead.

Our seven markets support over 100 family farms, and are an essential component in the sustainability of our local agriculture. Also, don't forget to take the pledge to eat local!

The Grand Prize will be awarded to the host/cook who makes the most delicious, unique and beautifully presented meal using ingredients from the Broadway, U-District, and/or West Seattle farmers markets. Don't be intimidated!" says the website.

And the grand prize is a gourmet meal cooked in your home by award-winning Chef Tamara Murphy of Brasa Restaurant for yourself and up to 5 guests.

Second place prize is a $100 shopping spree at any of the seven Seattle Neighborhood Farmers Markets, plus two bottles of wine from market farmers, and a Farmers Market apron.

Check out Apple-Looza tomorrow starting at 10am at the University District Farmers Market.

The site says it's a day of celebrating APPLES!

Apple Tasting starts at 10 am. You can learn, sample and vote on a huge range of varieties grown by the market farmers.

Pie baking demo starts at 12:30.

And all day long there is free cider, recipes, prizes and very interesting & useful apple information.
