Tomorrow LEAP At Local National Preparedness Month Event

This month is National Preparedness Month, which aims to raise awareness about  preparing for disasters and emergencies.

The Seattle Hubcap volunteer organization, which operates Emergency Communication Hubs, will be holding drills to simulate a Hub operating after a disaster, tomorrow at Maple Leaf Park.

Neighborhood Hub representatives will be at the event, including neighbors from the Laurelhurst LEAP Emergency Communication Hub, which is now listed on the map of Emergency Communications HUBs.

Laurelhurst Emergency Action Plan (LEAP), is a grassroots organization started by Laurelhurst residents. LEAP's mission is to save lives, reduce injuries and strengthen the community’s resilience according to a member of the organization.

LEAP has divided the neighborhood into clusters which roughly align with blocks and consist of about 20 houses each. LEAP Cluster Captains duties include organizing clusters, helping with building a family disaster supplies kit and establishing an emergency plan with neighbor, including a designated meeting and distributing LEAP communications to neighbors. To find out your cluster information contact LEAPLaurelhurst@outlook.com.
