Seattle Police's Holiday Sock Drive Accepting Donations

Hand-made items made by Laurelhurst neighbors

The annual Seattle Police North Precinct Holiday Sock Drive is going on until December 16th.

Every year the Seattle Police collects new gloves, hats and socks to distribute at family shelters and give to homeless people living on the streets and organizations throughout the city who help people in need.  Some of the items donated are kept at the North Precinct.

Your generous donations of socks, hats, scarves and mittens will warm our communities less fortunate this year," one of the Sock Drive coordinators told us.

Donations can be dropped off at Flooring America (3605 NE 45th Street) or Windermere (5424 Sand Point Way.

"We are so pleased with the generosity and caring of our neighbors for this project who have put in many hours making beautiful hand-made items," a Laurelhurst Community Club Boad member told us.

Donate Socks Now For North Precinct Police Annual Sock Drive

Some of  last year's neighborhood knitted donations

The annual North Seattle Police Precinct Sock Drive is happening now and the Laurelhurst Community Club Trustees invite the neighborhood to donate through November 25th for distribution on December 7th.

Every year the neighborhoods in the North Precinct collect new socks, hats and gloves for men, women and children of all ages to distribute to family shelters and the homeless.

This year's goal is 6000 pairs of socks.  Several charities need over 100 pairs of socks each month.

Last year Laurelhurst neighbors generously donated 500 of the 5,000 socks, hats and gloves that were distributed by the
North Precinct. Some of the donations had been lovingly hand knitted.

"This year we hope to exceed our numbers from last year," Linda, one of the LCC Trustees, told us.

Donations can be dropped off in the "Sox Box" at Windermere Real Estate (5424 Sand Point Way NE) Monday through Friday from 8:30-5:30pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10-4pm.

For  evenings drop off, donations can be left in the "Sox Box"on the porch at 4723 NE 54th Street.

To have  your donation picked contact eg4723@hotmail.com.

Neighborhood Sock Drive A Big Success Including Many Beautiful Knitted Donations

Cary Lassen, Laurelhurst Community Club Crime Prevention Co-Chair, sent us update on the neighborhood sock drive that she has been doing for the last month for the Seattle Police North Precinct Sock Drive.

She told us that the neighborhood pitched in again this year and generously donated 500 socks, hats, scarves and gloves. Some neighbors knitted some beautiful hats and one neighbor in particular, who remains anonymous, even made an adorable hooded baby sweater.  Cary would like to give a special thank-you to all the knitters. Pictured above are some of their donations.

Thanks also to the Seattle Community Church for their generosity and the Laurelhurst second grade Brownie troop for their big bag of socks and to everyone who dropped off donations to Cary's porch.

Sergeant Dianne Newson, pictured above, came up with the idea for the sock drive to donate socks to low-income medical patients who didn't have replacment socks after treatment. She gradually got community groups involved and this year over 4,628 pairs of socks were donated, with the University Business District donating the most at 3,430 pairs of socks.

Sergeant Newsom greatly appreciates all the donations and will be distributing the items including caps, gloves, scarves, t-shirts and washcloths to various shelters, clinics and organizations throughout the city.
