Free Garbage Transfer Station Drop Off Through Saturday

Garbage Collection Resumes and Free Garbage Drop-off at Seattle Transfer Stations Feb. 13-16 

 

Garbage collection resumes today for Monday and Tuesday customers.  Recycling and food and yard waste not collected from Monday and Tuesday customers today will be collected next week, on February 18th and 19th. Customers may put out double the usual amount of recycling and yard waste at no additional charge.  

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday collections will occur on a one-day delay this week.  

Seattle residents significantly impacted by delayed pickups, due to icy residential streets, may visit the transfer stations for free February 13-16th. Customers are asked to indicate they are Seattle residents whose solid waste services have been delayed due to weather for more than a week.   

There is a limit of one truck or carload, per household, up to 420 pounds of combined garbage/recycling/compost. For any amount more than 420 pounds, there will be a charge of $30 (minimum charge) or more.  Customers are advised to separate materials and cover the load.  

What to bring: Residential Garbage, Clean Yard Waste and Recyclables  

North Transfer Station: 1350 N 34th Street 
8am-5:30pm (until 7:30pm on Feb 14th and 15th)

Tomororw Free Electronics Recycling

A neighbor would like to share that there will be free electronics recycling tomorrow from 10-2pm at Sand Point Community United Methodist Church (4710 NE 70th Street).

Items that will be accepted:

·           TVs & Monitors - LCD and Plasma

·           Computers and Laptops

·           Servers and networking equipment

·           All printers, fax machines, and scanners

·           A/V equipment: DVD/VHS/Stereo units

·           UPS battery backups

·           Telecom equipment and cell phones

·           Keyboards and mice

·           Parts, peripherals, cables, etc.

·           Microwaves

Boy Scouts Doing Curbside Electronics Recycling Pick-Up Tomorrow

Local Boy Scout Troop 186, who have been meeting at the Laurelhurst elementary for decades,  is doing a unique fune fundraiser tomorrow from 10-2pm - collecting electronic trash at people’s homes and businesses and transporting it to 1Green Planet, a certified green recycling company.
 

The Troop Leader told us:

The fee is $25 for either a 2x2x2 box of virtually anything short of major appliances that once had electricity coursing through it or $25 for display screens up to 60’ or 150lbs.  

We did this fundraiser two years ago and recycled about three tons of material and raised thousands of dollars which helped buy supplies, provided scholarships for kids who couldn’t afford some activities.  

It’s better than a curb-side car wash or selling BSA sponsored popcorn, teaches the kids business skills (it’s almost entirely scout run) and helps Northeast Seattleites clear out their basements responsibly. 

Regarding the inevitable question about the recent controversy regarding scouts, suffice to say that the vast majority of adults in this parent, not church, chartered troop signed the petition advocating change

Windermere Sand Point and 1 Green Planet  are holding a free Recycling Event tomorrow from 10-2pm in the Center for Spiritual Living parking lot (5801 Sand Point Way.)

Here is a list of the items that can be recycled at the event.  For other items call or email to ask:

• Appliances – washers, dryers, refrigerators, etc.
• Electronics – televisions, stereos, etc.

Free Recycling Event On Saturday At Metropolitan Market

One of our readers, Reilly, would like the neighborhood to know about a Recycling event going on Saturday in the parking lot at nearby Metropolitan Market (5250 40th Avenue NE) from 10-3pm.

You can drop items off to be recylced at no charge and "it will save you a trip to the dump and keep stuff out of the land fills" Reilly tells us.

Proceeds from recycled raw materials fund operations and benefit local charities, homeless
shelters, and food banks. Seattle Children’s Hospital and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital
are among those assisted through your recycling donations.
