The NE Branch Public Library (6801 35th Avenue NE) is having a special event called "Seattle Writes: Flash Memoir" on Sunday from 2-4pm.
The information says:
Explore writing short personal essays and memoir with author and instructor Ann Teplick. In this workshop, Ann will show how to pay attention to brevity, imagery, mystery and surprise . We will begin with the six-word memoir, and build from there, topping off at two to three pages, as we draw inspiration from the short shorts of Joe Brainard, Li-Young Lee, Amy Tan, Joy Harjo, and others.
Ann is a Seattle poet, playwright, and prose writer. She has an MFA in creative writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts. She works with young writers at Seattle Children's Hospital, through Writers in the Schools; the state psychiatric hospital, through Pongo Teen Writing; and Coyote Central. She has received funding from Artist Trust, Seattle Office of Arts and Culture, 4Culture, and The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. She is currently working on a collection of poems, called “Snapped into Fractions,” about her many years writing with youth in psychiatric hospitals; as well as a young adult novel which explores the devastation of homophobia.
Bring a pen/pencil and paper or fully-charged laptop to each class and be prepared to write.
Seattle Writes supports local writers through programs, workshops, write-ins, and by providing spaces to work throughout the city through the support of The Seattle Public Library Foundation and the Amazon Literary Partnership.
