Help Pick Local Fruit With Community Fruit Tree Harvest Program

Community Fruit Tree Harvest, a program of Lettuce Link at Solid Ground, coordinates picking fresh fruit from backyard trees July through October.

Local fruit tree owners sign up and put their trees on a list to be harvested by teams of volunteers, who take the fruit directly to food banks and free meal programs.

The program, helps "cuts down on waste while ensuring that members of the community living on low incomes and otherwise struggling to feed their families have access to fresh, organically grown fruit." The mission statement is "
envisioning a city where people have equal access to healthy and culturally appropriate food."

Volunteers are needed to:
  • Scout for fruit trees
  • Harvest fruit with new friends
  • Deliver fruit to food banks, meal programs, shelters, etc.
  • Lead teams of volunteers as a Harvest Leader (orientations on July 16 and 18th from 6-7:30pm at Solid Ground (1501 North 45th Street)

To donate your worm and pesticide free fruit (apples, plums, pears, cherries, etc.) contact the Seattle Tilth Garden Hotline at 206.633.0224 or help@gardenhotline.org.
