On Sunday from 9am-noon, Laurelhurst Elementary School staff will be serving up pancakes to the community.
The Pancakes for Playgrounds Breakfast is a fundraiser, to benefit the Laurelhurst School Community Playground fund.
This summer, the north playground will be closed for construction while some play equipment is added and the blacktop is replaced with completion by September.
The Playground Committee says: "We’re hoping to top off the fund so we can afford to re-do ALL of the blacktop surfacing. Please plan to join us and invite your friends and neighbors!"
The School recently received a Department of Neighborhoods Matching Funds Grant to help with the project and Seattle Children’s Hospital made a donation of $5,000 towards the renovation.
Fundraising for the north playground has been ongoing for several years, with previous ice-cream fundraisers, a golf tournament last fall and the year before, both at the Sand Point Country Club, and a gear sale held last spring.
The south playground renovation was completed 2 years ago and has been enjoyed not only by students, but also by the community with its new equipment and re-surfacing.
