Spaces Still Available At Community Center Speciality Summer Camps And UW Summer Camp

Karla, with Seattle Parks and Recreation, sent us email to let the community know that registration is now in progress for over 30 summer specialty camps and classes offered at both at Laurelhurst and Magnuson  Community Centers for all ages from kids to seniors.

There is a wide selection of kids camps including Nature Camp, Science Camp, Triathlon Camp, Engineering Lego Camp, Roller Derby Camp, Chess Camp, Circus Arts Camp, GreenStage Theatre Camp, Donald Watts Basketball Camp, Yoga Camp, and many others for all ages, from tots to teens.

Chef Camp Ages: 8-12
Create culinary masterpieces with guest chefs and discover a wide variety of foods from around the world and our own back yard. A different chef each day. No need to bring lunch to this camp. Camp Directors: Magnuson Community Center Staff

U.K. Petite Soccer Camp  Ages: 3 - 5
In this one week camp kids receive instruction in a small setting form a professional U.K. Elite soccer coach. It's a fun introduction to the world of soccer through activity-based programs. T-shirt provided.  Instructor: U.K. Petite Soccer Staff

Jr. Nature Explorers Ages: 4-5
Join us for our 7th year of fun-filled outdoor adventure at Magnuson Park! Each day includes nature crafts, songs, games, and picnics. Camp fee includes an official Jr. Nature Explorer bandana, and each camp has a different theme and activities - sign up for one or several! Bring a sack lunch and a water bottle. Little Campers Ages: 2-4
Join Melissa Blumhagen and helpers for an active, fun-filled three days of activities! Campers will participate in crafts, dance, games, stories, songs, sports, hikes and free play. Bring a lunch, afternoon snack, and a water bottle. Camp Director: Melissa Blumhagen

Little People's Dance Camp Ages: 4-6
This summer boys and girls dance, swing, hop and twirl our way around a fun theme. The best part is you can return another week for a new theme. Parents and Friends are welcome to attend our performance at the end of the session. Please wear close fitting clothes with bare feet or ballet slippers. Camp Director: Chloe Davenport

Mini Sports Camp Ages: 5-7
Have fun playing soccer, T-ball, basketball, beach-ball-volleyball and more in a nurturing environment. Campers need to bring a sack lunch and drink. Shirt included in camp fee. Camp Director: Donna Kay

Chinese Camp Ages: 5-7
Interactive storytelling, print awareness, song singing and game playing will make the introduction of learning a second language a joy for all. All linguistic levels are welcome. Campers need to bring a snack and drink. Camp Directors: Iwen Chiu

Nature Explorers Ages: 6-7
Due to popular demand, we’ve expanded to 4 camps for the older nature explorer this year, each filled with fun. Camp fee includes an official Nature Explorer bandana, and each camp has a different theme and activities - sign up for one or several! Bring a sack lunch. Nature Explorers “Nature Rangers” Ages: 8 - 9
Join us for 4 days of unique adventure, each with a different theme and filled with advanced exploration of Magnuson Park, nature science activities, games and experiments, all designed to inspire and fulfill your child’s growing curiosity and knowledge about the natural world. “Teens Teach” Camp for Kids Ages: 6 – 10
Led by trained high school teen volunteers, this three day fun filled camp highlights arts and crafts, cooking, sports, nature, special events and more! This Magnuson sponsored grant based camp is supervised by Recreation Leaders and community center staff. Bring a sack lunch/drink.  Camp Directors: Magnuson Staff and High School Students

Specialty-A-Day Camp Ages: 6-10
In this special, one-of-a-kind summer camp, campers will enjoy a variety of activities in crafts, performance arts, sports and special events, spotlighting one theme each day of the week and then a grand finale on Friday! Bring a sack lunch/drink.

Pre-Engineering Ages: 5-6
With access to over 100,000 pieces of LEGO®, your child will have the opportunity to build what they have only dreamed of with the support of an experienced Play-Well Engineering instructor to guide them. Camp Directors: Play-Well TEKnologies Staff

Engineering Fundamentals Ages: 7-12
From racecars to Battletracks, this is a hands-on and minds-on suitable for LEGO® novices to "maniacs." Designed by engineers, the curriculum challenges both new and returning students to reach the next level of engineering comprehension all while having fun. Basketball Camp with Donald Watts  Ages 6-14
Time to get ready for another season of B’Ball! Explore fundamentals of basketball with Donald Watts and his staff. Shirt included in camp fee.

Mad Science ‘Secret Agent Lab’ Camp Ages 6 - 12
Go inside a scientist’s lab and discover the secrets you’ve always wondered about! Use your skills as a chemist to make your own radical reactions with batteries, a chemical clock, and more! Compare fingerprints and discover the mysteries of DNA as you fine-tune your secret agent skills. Make “brain goo” and check out your bones as you travel the organ trail and uncover the secrets of your own body. Become a Mad Science detective and use your forensic skills to solve the “Great Cookie Caper”! Camp Director: Mad Science

Mad Science ‘Rockin’ Rockets’ Camp Ages: 6-12
Mad Science invites you to launch into the science of flight as you build your very own rockets! Experiment with different kinds of propulsion systems as you use your new knowledge to blast off, track, and recover different kinds of rockets. Even treat your stomachs to some rocket snacks. You are going to have a “Rockin” good time at Rockin’ Rockets Camp!Camp Director: Mad Science

Triathlon Camp (USAT Junior) Ages: 8-12
Come and learn the sport of Triathlon. Finish the week with a mini-Triathlon. Everyone wins! Must have a bike in good working condition and be able to swim 25 yards. Bring a swimsuit, towel, goggles, water bottle and running shoes. Camp Director: Sara Graham (USAT certified)

Football 101 Ages: 8-13
Improve your game! Last day we'll even have a tailgate party! Get in shape for the upcoming season; great for flag or tackle. No equipment required. Camp Directors: Nick Barr, Tim Barr

Roller Derby Camp (co-ed) Ages: 8 – 13
Anyone can learn to skate or improve your skills at our summer camp and have fun with team building games in a safe, positive environment. All levels are welcome. Skates available upon request. Participants must provide wrist guards, mouth guards, elbow pads, knee pads and helmet. Shirts with logo are included. Bring a sack lunch and water bottle. Camp Director: Seattle Roller Derby

Fencing Camp Ages: 8–13
This exciting camp gives participants an introduction to historic style fencing including footwork and basic offense and defense. Bring a sweatshirt, gloves and a pair of comfortable court or running shoes. Masks and foils will be provided. Bring a lunch and drink. Camp Director: Cecil Longino

GreenStage/Magnuson Youth Theatre Camp Ages: 8-15
Join GreenStage and Magnuson Community Center and enjoy this special opportunity for enrichment and fun this summer. Campers will perform ‘Merry Wives of Winsor’ on Saturday 7/16 at 10 a.m. Costumes will be provided. Bring a sack lunch and drink. (5 days plus 10:30 a.m. performance on 7/16). Bikes, Boats, Beach and Climb Camp Ages: 12-15
The first day of camp, we’ll have a barbecue and float test where campers get to know each other before a week of adventure! The rest of the week, campers will explore the surrounding area of Magnuson Park and Lake Washington on bikes, a rock climbing wall, sail boats and kayaks. Lunch provided the first day. Bring sunscreen. Must be able to pass a float test. Camp Director: Magnuson Staff

The UW is also offering summer day camps for elementary school students from 1st – 5th grade students. The full day camps include art, science, creative writing and drama classes each day and experience, as well as access to the unique resources and fieldtrips that the UW has to offer.
