Walk on the Wild Side - UW Botanic Gardens Event This Saturday

Wendy, from the UW Botanic Gardens, sent us email about a free guided tour through the Union Bay Natural Area, located right here in Laurelhurst, this Saturday from 10-noon. Kids are welcome.

Here is the information:

"Come learn about our own backyard marvel, the Union Bay Natural Area.

Join Kern Ewing, UW Botanic Gardens award winning faculty member for "Walk on the Wild Side" - a tour through this wonderful natural area at the Center for Urban Horticulture.

Learn how UW students and faculty have turned what once was a landfill into a beautiful restoration site including woods, wetlands, and meadows. This outdoor classroom and important wildlife habitat attracts over 200 species of birds.

The tour will also include a look into the Yesler Swamp area, which many Laurelhurst neighbors have worked hard to begin to restore and install a trail so all of us can access this unique part of the natural area.

This event is happening rain or shine so dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. Meet at the kiosk just west of the buildings.

Please RSVP to the UW Botanic Gardens - Jean Robins at 206-685-2590 or jrobins@uw.edu."
