Laurelhurst School Foundation Needs Your Help to Fund Needs at the School

Brian Hart, from the Laurelhurst School Foundation, sent us email asking us to post the latest information on the Foundation.

The Foundation, Brian tells us, was formed a few years ago, when "several Laurelhurst residents got together to discuss how to develop a sustainable source of income for the Laurelhurst Elementary School. The group later became known as the Friends of Laurelhurst Foundation. The Foundation seeks to compliment the efforts of the PTA by building a long term endowment, which will be able to generate predictable funding each year.

The Seattle Public School system is unable to fund the many critical needs of the Laurelhurst Elementary students. The Laurelhurst PTA has done an exemplary job of raising funds to meet these needs."

According to their website, The Foundation has partnered with the Alliance for Education to establish an endowment.

The goal of the endowment for the foundation is "to reach an initial threshold amount of $1 MM which will be administered in the future by a panel of neighbors, parents, alumni, teachers and staff organized as the Board for the Friends of Laurelhurst Foundation. The Seattle Public School system is unable to fund the many critical needs of the Laurelhurst Elementary students," according to the website.

In Brian's email he says:

Laurelhurst School Foundation Needs Your Help!

The Friends of Laurlhurst Foundation (FOLF) is half way toward its goal of having a $1 million endowment for the school.

This year, FOLF intends to work with the PTA to install "Whiteboards" in the classrooms--essentially high-tech, interactive, and web-capable replacements to the old chalk blackboards--putting Laurelhurst on the cutting edge of elementary education in the Seattle School District.

But we need your help. Donations are tax-deductable.

Those donating $500 or more are invited to a complimentary dinner and winetasting at JM Cellars in Woodinville this May. JM Cellars is owned by Laurelhurst natives John and Peggy Bigelow, and their wines have been recently acclaimed in Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.

Drop off your check, payable to FOLF, at the school office (please include your email so we can contact you for the Winetasting dinner details), or mail directly to the school:
4530 46th Ave N.E.Seattle, WA 98105206-252-5400.
