Sailing Race Still On Last Night at LBC

Monday night sailing at the Beach Club was still a go last night despite the rain, a bit heavy at times, we're told by one of our readers. Sailors rigged up and did their weekly thing. Very brave!

If you haven't ever watched the Monday night races, try to catch one before it's all over. It's fun to watch and many of the sailors have been doing it for years.

They race on Flatties which is an 18-foot jib-headed sloop with a centerboard and the first one was made in 1928 according to this Laurelhurst Sailing Fleet website one of our staffers found dedicated to LBC sailing and the history of sailing at the club. Jack Carver, who looks like he's been sailing at the club since the 1960's, and a few other long-time sailors and Laurelhurst residents have put together a lot of really interesting information about the history of sailing at the Beach Club and flatties.

In one of the interviews on the site he says "it's (sailing) is a good way to get acquainted with your son or daughter or others in Laurelhurst" he says.
