Spruce up your Block Through the Tree Fund

The City of Seattle is providing free trees for planting strips to neighborhood groups of 5 or more residents through The Tree Fund, a component of the Neighborhood Matching Fund.

This program "provides trees to neighborhood groups to enhance the City's urban forest. The City provides the trees, and neighbors share the work of planting and caring for the trees. Tree Fund projects are a great way to build a stronger sense of community," the City of Seattle website says.

Neighbors can select from a list of varieties determined by the City Arborist. Trees are delivered in the fall to a requested spot near where the trees will be planted.

Deadline for The Tree Fund is August 21st and applications are on the website.

A reader reminded us that a neighbor a few years back won a Good Neighbor Award for organizing her block and rallying everyone to help with planting a tree in front of their house on their block.

Let us know if you organize your block. We've seen several blocks lined with the beautiful City funded trees.

Our block did this and it looks great. Helps to distract from all the wires. And fun getting to know neighbors in the process.
