Northeast Seattle Little League Registration Open

Registration is now open for Northeast Seattle Little League's Programs for kids 4-16 years old, including tee ball for kids 4-6 years old, coach pitch baseball and softball for boys and girls 7-8 years old and kid pitch leagues for older kids.

Baseball and softball assessments (for ages 9 and up) will be held on January 27 and February 2 for American, National, and Majors Baseball as well as Majors Softball (Jan 27 only). Players who do not attend one of the assessment sessions will be ineligible to play.  There are no assessments for 78ers, 89ers, or Minors Softball. 

The NESL website says:

NESLL is a volunteer organization and we are always looking for managers, coaches, and general volunteers.  Manager Applications are due January 2nd, which can be found on the website. 

NESL encourages returning and new players to register as soon as possible so that they can make sure there are the right amount of managers and coaches in place to give all players the best possible experience on the field.

Laurelhurst Park Baseball Field Renovations, Including New Bleachers, Almost Complete

Laurelhurst baseball playfields have been getting a makeover the last few weeks, in preparation for the Little League baseball season. 

Concrete was poured last week and bleachers were installed yesterday.  And over the last few weeks there have been improvements to the infield.

Magic Toyota, located in Edmonds, has funded the improvements as part of their "Building Stronger Communities, One Field at a Time” project, along with other corporate partners including Foushee Construction, Dunn Lumber and Root Sports, for the various hard costs.

Total costs for the Laurelhurst playfield upgrades are about $35000, according to Peter Chung, General Manager/Vice President of Magic Toyota.

He said that upgrades should be finished by the end of the month. 

On Sunday morning, Magic Toyota employee volunteers will be working on the fields, including spreading by hand six pallets of infield conditioner.

Peter said about the project:

Magic Toyota has been involved in a 10 year program to repair/build Little League baseball fields in our local area.  The campaign has been in the planning stages since 2016 with the State Congress and will last until 2026.  Because all funding and insurance coverage is coming from Magic Toyota and Partners there is no financial approval necessary. 

The partnership came through an introduction from State Representative, Eric Pettigrew, through the head of Parks for the City of Seattle. Eric and I have had many conversations on how Magic Toyota could help our community and the City of Seattle.

Peter said that Laurelhurst playfield was chosen out of about six locations that were presented by the various local Little Leagues based off of field need and location.   

Seattle Parks and Recreation told the Laurelhurst Blog Staff that Magic Toyota has committed to improving eight additional fields in the Puget Sound area. Last year, Magic Toyota completed one of the fields for Alderwood Little League.

He added "For obvious reasons we are focusing on locations within Magic Toyota’s primary market area (South Snohomish Co/North King Co) as our business is located in Edmonds.  Magic has many customers as well as employees that live and are involved in Little Leagues in our area."

Peter said that the Laurelhurst project has been in planning since May of 2017.  

Laurelhurst Fields North and South were selected for North East Seattle Little League (NESLL).  

"The upgrades were determined by multiple conversations with NESLL  board members and the City of Seattle Parks Department," Peter told the Laurelhurst Blog Staff.

Seattle Parks added the upgrades are decided upon based on field conditions, funding amount, and environmental impact.

The renovations at Laurelhurst playfields include the spectator areas (bleachers and pads underneath them, etc) and infield base and top covering specifically:

• removing and replacing bleacher areas with slab concrete or crushed rock (determined by the City Arborist, so no impact to the surrounding trees)
• replacing wood bleachers with two sets (four total) of ADA Aluminum bleachers
• tilling infield surface and top dressing with Turface baseball field dressing (should soften the playing surface for the kids as to reduce injuries)

Peter said that "recognition of Magic’s support will be in the form of simple placards by the City of Seattle and NESLL at their choosing but not required."

He added that all of the grand unveiling of the fields is via Root Sports and Mariners broadcast and the "local unveiling is up to the local Little League organizations to do at their choosing."

Peter said the intent of Magic Toyota providing upgrades to the various little league fields is:

• "to build stronger communities though youth sports.  Youth sports gives families and neighbors a reason to come together.   While taking time out of their day to day lives, to enjoy spending time with each other. 
• to give back to our communities by creating safe playing environments to promote families and neighbors to spend time together though youth sports
• by giving back to our communities supporting  “Family Time”  we are building stronger communities as well as loyal customers"

Wes Henrie, NESLL Board Member, thanked Magic Toyota via email, saying:

Thanks so much for working with your partners and spearheading the improvements at Laurelhurst Park fields 1 & 2.  The old wood bleachers were rotting and in need of replacement.  Thanks again and the NESLL community appreciates the collaboration on this.

Magic Toyota is also involved with the University of Washington's Pups and Parents Program, which "subsides the costs of Sporting event tickets so parents can share/expose these experiences with their children," as well as Crossfire Soccer, one of the Nation’s top Youth Soccer programs, Peter said.

Northeast Seattle Little League Registration Open For 2018 Season

Wes Henrie,  NESLL (Northeast Seattle Little League) Past President and now Board of Directors member, and long time Laurelhurst resident,  would like to let the community know that registration is open now for baseball, softball, and tee ball is open for the 2018 season. 

Wes told the Laurelhurst Blog Staff that a significant number of NESLL families are from the Laurelhurst neighborhood with Laurelhurst Park as the "crown jewel" of NESLL baseball and softball. 

NESLL holds several of its annual events, NESLL's Mid-Season Classic, Hit-a-Thon, and picture day, at Laurelhurst Park, which neighbors enjoy watching.

It's that time of the year!  On behalf of Northeast Seattle Little League, I'm happy to announce that registration for baseball, softball, and tee ball is open for the 2018 season.   

I want to thank all NESLL volunteers for a fantastic 2017 season which included NESLL’s inaugural summer baseball and softball programs. It was a fantastic year all around and I’m excited to get the 2018 season started!  

For the 2018 season, NESLL has upgraded to a new registration system and website powered by Dick’s Sporting Goods. NESLL families will need to create a new account, login, and password. It will only take a few minutes and the feedback from families about the new system has been very positive.  

For kids 5-6 years old, NESLL’s tee ball program is a great way to introduce the game. For parents looking to introduce their young children to athletics or baseball, NESLL’s tee ball program is the best in the area. 

NESLL’s softball program is a great way to get young girls involved in athletics and be a part of championship teams.  

In 2017, NESLL fielded championship teams at the district and state levels. Welldone! 

NESLL’s baseball program has opportunities for boys and girls ages 6-16 to learn about teamwork and the fundamentals of the game.

Registration is open for the Northeast Seattle Little League (NESLL), 2017 season for tee ball (ages 5-7) and baseball (7 and older) and softball.

Wes Henrie, NESLL President told the Laurelhurst Blog:

For parents looking to introduce their young children to athletics or baseball, NESLL’s tee ball program is a great way to introduce the game. The program is led by NESLL’s player development coordinator, Joe Lampitt, along with Baseball Positive, a baseball fundamentals program for younger players, new coaches, and parents.  

NESLL’s softball program, the fastest growing program in NESLL, is a great way to get young girls involved in athletics and be a part of championship teams. There are opportunities for girls of all ages to compete and play against teams from across the region. NESLL has fielded championship teams at both the city and district level. 

NESLL’s baseball program has opportunities for boys and girls ages 6-16 to learn about teamwork and the fundamentals of the game.

Henrie said that last season, NESLL had more than 1,000 players and 76 teams from baseball, softball, and tee ball.

Registration for the 2016 season is underway for NESLL (Northeast Seattle Little League).

Wes Henrie, NESLL President, told the Laurelhurst Blog Staff that "the baseball/softball season is just around the corner and we're getting geared up for 2016."

 

He added:

Northeast Seattle Little League is your neighborhood little league – serving families who live in or go to school in the area bounded by the ship canal, NE 110th Street, Lake Washington, and 25th Avenue NE/Lake City Way.   

NESLL’s tee ball program for 5-6 year olds is a great way to introduce the game. NESLL’s softball program is a great way to get young girls involved in athletics and be a part of championship teams.  NESLL’s baseball program is for boys and girls ages 6-13 and a great opportunity to learn about teamwork and the fundamentals of the game.  

Kids aged 5-7 play tee ball. Kids 7-8 play farm league (either coach-pitch baseball or machine-pitch softball). Older age groups play in kid-pitch leagues, and teams are assembled after player assessment. 

For parents, there are plenty of volunteer opportunities within the league and with your child’s team.    

In 2014, Little League amended its residency requirements to allow children to play in the local league whose boundaries include where the school they attend is located. So, if a child’s school is located within the NESLL boundaries, that child can play with their school friends in NESLL. 

Join the more than 1,000 boys and girls from your neighborhood who play tee ball, coach-pitch baseball, machine-pitch softball, and competitive levels of baseball and softball.

Cheer NE Seattle Little Leaguers At Park Through Next Week And Suspected Arsonists Set Fire To Baseball Storage Unit On 4th



 

Northeast Seattle Little League ( NESLL)  is hosting the District All Star Tournament for 10 and 11 year olds at Laurelhurst Park through July 14. 

Neighbors are welcome to come out and cheer on our neighborhood boys as they take on teams from around the Seattle area" Jennifer, one of the NESL representatives, told the Laurelhurst Blog.

Jennifer added that the "NESLL team lost their game on Saturday, but staged a remarkable come-from-behind victory Monday night to move on in the tournament.  Their next game is 6pm on Thursday."

Unfortunately, the storage bin containing all of the tournament support equipment appeared to have been deliberately set on fire on July 4th just after midnight.  

"Many thousands of dollars worth of equipment was burned.  It is suspected arson and the police and fire department is involved.  Thanks to a bunch of very dedicated volunteers, we were able to resupply quickly and the tournament has gone on without a hitch," Jennifer said.

The NESL Facebook page says:

4th July of Fire at Laurelhurst Park: The storage POD being used to house NESLL and District 8 equipment and supplies for the 10-11 Baseball Tournament was destroyed by fire early Sunday morning. Initial reports indicate that the fire was intentionally set and criminal investigations are underway. Anybody with information regarding this incident, please contact the Seattle Fire Department or Seattle Police. 

On a positive note, ALL games were played yesterday without any disruption thanks to a truly phenomenal effort by the NESLL volunteer core! It was like Christmas day in Whoville -- not even the Grinch could dampen the community's spirit and enthusiasm or stop the baseball games from being played with the all of the flare and hospitality that distinguish NESLL events.

A neighbor said that trees above and around the storage pod has burned branches and that the storage container was most likely "targeted with fireworks by kids on the night of the 4th.  

The Laurelhurst Community Club (LCC) said: " It's disheartening that kids would behave so irresponsibly at our neighborhood park."

Northeast Seattle Little League Opening Day Games And Festivities This Week-End



The Northeast Seattle Little League ( NESLL) Mid Season Baseball Classic (replacing Opening Day) is happening all day on Saturday at Laurelhurst Park starting at 9:30am with the last two games starting at 5pm, and concluding with the Hit-a-Thon on Sunday.

There will be a Hot Dog cart, Espresso Truck, entertainment, Home Run Derby, music, announcers and special presentations between each game.

NESL will also be honoring the over 60 sponsors who support the League, may of whom live in the neighborhood. Last year, several representatives from neighborhood businesses were on hand to throw out the first pitch of each game, including Beverly Schaefer, owner of Katterman's Pharmacy who has sponsored NESLL teams for over 40 years and Kosta Varlamos of Varlamos Pizza.
"Our long tradition of highly entertaining announcers, food vendors, and over 200 of our uniformed little leaguers are guaranteed to keep fans happy throughout," Barry with NESL told us.

NE Seattle Little League District Championship Game Tonight At The Park

John Joynt, with Northeast Seattle Little League (NESL), would like to invite the community to the District All Star tournament Championship Game Tournament tonight at 6pm at Laurelhurst Park.

The Championship will feature Woodinville versus. Northeast Seattle.  The winning team will represent District 8 in the State Tournament, which will be played in Walla Walla later this month.

"It would great to fill the bleachers and outfield with Northeast fans.  So please wake the neighbors and phone the kids to rally as much support as possible," John told us.

Northeast Seattle Little League Kicks Off On Saturday At The Park

John Joynt, with  Northeast Seattle Little League (NESL), would like to invite the community to the District All Star tournament for Baseball's Major Division (ages 11-12 years)  kicking-off at Laurelhurst Park on Saturday  at 1pm with the Northeast Seattle team playing against Ballard.

"This is the start of the journey to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA.  This post-season tournament will include teams from Ballard, Magnolia, Queen Anne, Bothell, and Woodinville to our neighborhood," John told us.

The double-elimination tournament runs through Monday, July 16th, when the Championship Game will be held at 6pm.
The winning team will represent District 8 in the State Tournament, which will be played inWalla Walla later in July.

Northeast Seattle Little League Baseball & Softball Registrati​on Open Now For The 2012 Season

John Joynt, with the Northeast Seattle Little League, sent us email saying "it's hard to believe that it's time to start thinking about baseball already, but we have opened up Baseball and Softball registration for the 2012 season."

NESL encourages returning and new players to register as soon as possible so that they can make sure there are the right amount of managers and coaches in place to "give all players the best possible experience on the field."

Practices will start at the beginning of March, with the younger divisions like Tee Ball starting a few weeks later.  Games will start in late March or early April and run through the end of May. 

For the 9-12 year-old divisions, Baseball will conclude on June 9th with Guy Marquiss Championship Saturday and Softball will wrap-up with their championship games at Husky Softball Stadium on Monday, June 11th.

Player Assessments will be held for Baseball’s American, National, and Major Divisions (9-12 years-old) and Softball’s Major Division (11-12 years-old).  Baseball assessments are expected to be held on Saturday, January 28th and Sunday, February 5th.  Softball assessments are tentatively scheduled for Saturday, February 11th.  Registered players for those divisions will be notified by email when the assessment schedule is confirmed.

The League will also be holding several Winter Workout Sessions to help get the players ready for the new season with the details still being finalized, but  most likely to be held in January and February.
