A Gem of a Bank Building in the U District |

The former University National Bank building (most recently a Wells Fargo Bank), prominently situated at the northeast corner of University Way NE and NE 45th Street in the heart of the University District, will be considered for landmark nomination at the LPB’s May 19 meeting. The property is also being considered for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Notable for its white terra cotta-cladding, Neoclassical Revival style, and curved corner, the building was completed in 1913 and designed by the Beezer Brothers. We fully support the nomination and encourage you to do so as well. This architectural gem in the U District deserves formal recognition and protection. Learn more about its history and design in Larry Johnson’s landmark nomination report. Send public comments to Erin Doherty by May 17 (erin.doherty@seattle.gov). |
