Seattle Public Library Holding Survey To Learn How People Use Technology

We want to hear from you!

The Seattle Public Library is holding a 10 minute on-line survey through Saturday  to learn how the public uses its technology.

The information says:

The Seattle Public Library offers more than 1,000 computers with free Internet access and an array of online services – everything from online homework help to free movie downloads.
"People use Library computers and Internet connections for many purposes, including finding jobs, researching health information, and staying connected with friends and family,” said City Librarian Marcellus Turner.

A similar online survey conducted in 2011 showed many adult patrons used Library computers or Internet connection for civic engagement purposes. Of those using Library computers to engage with the community, 39 percent did so to learn about a political activity, candidate or social cause. A total of 50 percent of technology users utilized Library resources for employment or career purposes.
The IMPACT Survey, is being coordinated by the University of Washington Information School.  City Librarian Turner said survey information will result in improved services.

Seattle Parks Conducting Various Surveys

Seattle Parks and Recreation has three surveys going on right now for the public to fill out on-line.

The first survey, available through Monday,  is asking the community to give input on favorite recreation activities in order to make city-wide parks even better.

The second  survey has to do with Seattle Parks recreation gear and gifts and getting feedback on what people think about the idea of selling t-shirts, water bottles, tote bags, field guides, art representing parks, seedlings or plants seen in parks, or other merchandise.

And the third survey, is about Parks' new planning process to develop strategic direction for the future around three key areas: effective resource deployment, public view of the parks system and basic services provided by Parks.

The information says that:
  • The first phase of the plan will be the development of shared Vision, Mission and Values statements.
  • The second phase will be a programmatic review, telling the story of Parks and Recreation: what we do, who we serve, how we are funded. In this phase, Parks will examine emerging recreation trends and the latest census data. We will conduct a statistically valid survey citywide to gather information on how our park system is used, frequency of use and park users’ concerns.
  • Phase three will be a look to the future that provides a framework for a sustainable parks and recreation system.
More information about this plan is available here.

Take The Washington State Transportation Survey

The Washington State Transportation Commission has created an online survey for the public to let  local and state leaders know what transportation needs are most important and what the transportation priorities should be.

"This is an opportunity for you to help shape the future of your local, regional, and statewide transportation system," the information says.

The survey is part of the Commission’s statewide outreach program in which the Commission asked King County to help inform people about it. The results of the survey will be reported to the Governor, Legislature, policy makers, and advisory groups such as the Connecting Washington Task Force.

The survey which takes about 20-30 minutes to complete asks questions about what type of transportation is most important, how it should be paid for, how tolling revenue should be used, and other similar questions.

"The Transportation Commission reviews and assesses the entire transportation system and issues the state’s 20-year Transportation Plan. It also adopts tolls for state highways and bridges and fares for Washington State Ferries.  The Commission also provides a public forum for transportation policy development," the website says.
