Tomorrow "Better Book Sale" Hosted By Friends of The Seattle Public Library

The Friends of The Seattle Public Library is having  "Better Book Sale" tomorrow from 9-5pm in the old cafeteria at North Seattle College (9600 College Way North).

"We are very excited about this sale, because the Seattle Mystery Bookshop donated a large part of its inventory to The Friends before it closed this fall," one of the coordinators told the Laurelhurst Blog Staff.

Don’t miss our one-day “better” book sale! This sale features hundreds of “like-new,” gift quality books of all genres starting at $3!  

Featured book categories include children’s books, valuable old and rare books and a nice selection of general non-fiction including art books and literature. DVDs will be non-former Library in very good condition. We will have a few hand-selected CDs, some interesting titles from “The Great Courses,” and quite a few Civil War framed prints and paintings. 

If you are a member of Friends of The Seattle Public Library, be sure to enter our raffle give-away.  Three incredible gift collections will be raffled off throughout the sale. Just visit the FriendShop table at the sale to enter.

Friends Of Seattle Public Library Holding Annual Meeting Tonight At Northeast Branch

 

The Friends of The Seattle Public Library is holding its annual meeting tonight at 6:30pm at the  Northeast Branch (6801 35th Avenue NE).

Join the Friends for "Good Books You May Have Missed", the featured free presentation at the Tuesday October 7th annual meeting of the Friends of The Seattle Public Library. Some books have all the luck, garnering awards and buzz to spare.  Reader Services librarians Andrea Gough, Misha Stone and David Wright will share a variety of worthwhile titles, old and new, that may have slipped under your literary radar.   

All members are encouraged to join us at the Northeast Branch where you can also see the library's new "re-imagined space" for children.  This is a chance to hear about our successful recent Fall book sale and talk to Board Members about future plans for the Friends.   

Friends' members will also elect officers and new board members for the coming year, salute our volunteers and announce our"Friend of the Year" awards. The Friends of The Seattle Public Library is a non-profit, grassroots organization dedicated to promoting our Library as an essential institution of our society. Our volunteer members advocate for, educate about, and raise funds on behalf of the Library.

Get Your Free Museum Pass Through the Seattle Public Library

A reader sent us email wanting to let the neighborhood know that the Seattle Public Library offers free museum passes to library cardholders.

Here is the information:

The Museum Pass allows you to use your Seattle Public Library card to reserve and print out an admission pass to nine   Seattle museums at no charge. 

Participants can reserve a pass to an individual museum once every 30 days, and may use one pass per week.  

The program reservation system requires the cardholder enter their Library card number, personal identification number (PIN), choose a specific date, and print the museum pass.  

Participating museums include: The Burke Museum, The Center for Wooden Boats, The Children’s Museum, Experience Music Project (EMP), Henry Art Gallery, The Log House Museum, Nordic Heritage Museum, Northwest African American Museum, and Wing Luke Museum.

Give Input On Seattle Public Libraries On Saturday at Northeast Branch

Seattle Public Library is holding the last of its community outreach meetings, part of the "Libraries for All: A Plan for the Present, A Foundation for the Future," on Saturday from 2-4pm at the Northeast Branch (6801 35th Avenue NE).

The community meetings are an opportunity for the public to give input on how library services can improve in four main areas -  library hours, books and materials, computers and online resources, and building maintenance. There will also be a discussion of strategies to stabilize Library funding.

If you cannot attend a meeting, you can submit your feedback online.

All Ages Games And Fun Event At The Northeast Branch Library Tomorrow

The Northeast Branch (6801 35th Avenue N.E.)of the Seattle Public Library is having an " All Ages Games and Fun" event for the whole family tomorrow from 1-4pm.

There will be video games, table games and crafts. Snacks will be provided.

The event is free and open to the public. No registration is required. Free parking is available in the branch parking lot.

Mega Book Sale This Week-end At Magnuson

The Friends of the Seattle Public Library Fall Book Sale is this weekend at Magnuson Park (7400 Sand Point Way N.E.) in  Building No. 30 and The Brig . 

Hours are 9-5pm on Saturday and 11-4pm on Sunday.  Book Sales consist of books and media donated by the community, book stores and materials no longer needed by the Library.

Over 250,000 books, CDs, DVDs, audio books, VHS, sheet music, art prints and posters will be among the items up for sale to the public at bargain prices. There will also be a large selection of children’s books.

Hardbacks will be $2 and paperbacks will be $1.  On Sunday, most items will sell for half-price.

Proceeds benefit the Library.
