A Fun Way To Get A Free Bag Of Compost

Cedar Grove Compositing is holding a scavenger hunt, called "The Big Dig" through April 11th  The goal is to find “Corey the Compostable Apple Core," in the picture above, and you will win a free bag of compost.

Carey is hiding in nearby neighborhoods, such as Viewridge, and 30 others in Seattle. Clues are posted here.

The more Coreys you find, the better are your chances of winning a pass to the Big Dig Finals—and a chance to have a $3,000 yard makeover, as well as other prizes.

Cedar Grove is having this special event, as well as some other deals, such as buy two bags of compost and get third free, 35%  off kitchen food scrap containers and 15$ off bulk compost, to thank Seattle for turning 125,000 tons of organic waste into nutritious Cedar Grove Compost.

Bicycle T-Shirt Design Contest Underway

Calling all Artists and Bicyclists!

Now more than ever we need to promote the message of “Share the Road” to increase safety for all roadway users.

The Bicycle Alliance of Washington is excited to announce its Share the Road t-shirt design contest.

Deadline is midnight October 14, 2011 and there is no entry fee. Prize is a $100 gift certificate to REI. See attached flyer for details.

Some guidelines:
 Art must be original and not published elsewhere.
 Submitted art will not be returned.
 A panel of judges will select the winner.
 Bicycle Alliance may modify the artwork to meet print requirements.
 T-shirts will be produced on marina blue Patagonia Capilene ® T-shirts.
 Winner’s name may appear in newspapers, on Bicycle Alliance website and other
communications.

Design Specifications
 High resolution 300dpi or higher – eps, jpeg, tiff, pdf, psd, ai (illustrator) formats are all
acceptable.
 Design must use the words “Share the Road.”
 Bicycle Alliance of Washington logo must appear on shirt (color or black and white). Image
can be copied from the homepage of our website http://www.bicyclealliance.org/
 Images must fit in the range of 15” wide by 18” height front and back. Shirts will be printed
with standard front and back locations in the middle of the shirt.

Neighborhood Appreciation Day Art Contest Deadline Tomorrow

Though the 16th Annual Neighborhood Appreciation Day is still a few months off on Saturday, February 6, the Department of Neighborhoods is holding its traditional art contest for Seattle K-12 kids to express what they think it means to be good neighbors.

The winning artwork will be on thousands of Neighbor Appreciation Day cards that are given free "to Seattle residents, schools, and community organizations that want to acknowledge the good work of their immediate neighbors and others who help make their neighborhood a special place to live," according to the website.

Deadline for the artwork contest is tomorrow, Friday December 11th. The contest is open to all Seattle students K-12.

Some instructions from the website:

"The artwork should reflect the theme of Neighbor Appreciation Day, depicting caring and active neighbors. Some visuals from previous years show neighbors sharing meals, helping with child care, talking over the fence or working together on a community project, such as building a new playground.

Art should be submitted on 8 ½ x 11 paper.

It is recommended that art be vivid in color. Artwork created with watercolors or magic markers tend to show better, but all formats are welcome."

Name, address, school, and complete contact information must be written on the back of the artwork.

Artwork will not be returned.
