SPD Offering Free Vehicle Steering Wheel Locks

Seattle Police Department Crime Prevention Coordinator, Mary Amberg, who oversees Laurelhurst and 24 other neighborhoods in the North Precinct Area boundaries, would like to share with the community that frree vehicle sterling wheel locks are available.
Auto theft continues to be a concern in the North Precinct. I have received 24 more anti-theft Clubs to give out to the community for free. I gave out almost 80 last year. To qualify your car must be a model that is 1999 or older, or have been stolen in the past. Please contact me if you would like to receive a club and include your name and make/model/year of car. Clubs can be picked up at the North Precinct (10049 College Way North) only confirmation via email. Also below are some tips.
Auto Theft Tips:
• Never leave your car running or the keys in the ignition when you’re away, even for ‘just a minute’, please remember this is illegal in Seattle and in Washington (SMC 11.70.160, RCW 46.61.600)
• Remove remote garage door openers from vehicle
• Always lock doors and roll up windows, even if the car is parked in front of your home
• Never leave valuables in plain view, even if your car is locked
• If possible, park vehicle in a busy, locked, monitored and/or well-lit area
• Utilize anti-theft devices
• If possible, activate alarm
Be observant- If you see something, say something and report all crimes and suspicious activity immediately to the Seattle Police Department by calling 911 and to report auto thefts that are not in-progress: call the Seattle Police Non-Emergency Number: (206) 625-5011
