STEM And Writing Camps At Community Center




Registration is underway for a variety summer camps at  the Laurelhurst Community Center. including S.T.E.M Camps, LEGO® Robotics Camps, Sports Camps, Science Camps, Pottery Camps, Writing and Carpentry Camps.




Register online, in-person at the Community Center Monday through Friday 9-2pm or by calling 684-7529.
Below are youth STEM and Writing Camps offered:

MAD SCIENCE: CREATIVE CONTRAPTIONS AGES 6-11
Each day campers are given a series of challenges which they overcome using basic materials, simple machines, tips from
famous inventors and their mind! With a little bit of ingenuity, they’ll construct catapults and forts and then lay siege, fabricate innovative flying
contraptions, and design their own gizmo prototypes.

MAD SCIENCE: RADICAL ROBOTS AGES 7-12
We'll examine the science behind electricity, conductors, and simple circuits. Experiment with line-tracking, sound
and infrared sensors, and investigate how robots use these components to function and explore the world around them.

MAD SCIENCE: SPY ACADEMY AGES 7-11
Your child will sharpen their special operative skills as they uncover the secret world of espionage. Learn the art of
listening and observation, sending secret messages and decoding clues, and check out security systems.

MAD SCIENCE: SUPER SCIENCE SAMPLER AGES 6-12
Your camper will become an engineer and build bridges, domes, cubes, and pyramids. Assemble and control pulleys,
levers, catapults, and simple machines, and use chemistry to make your own sidewalk chalk and crystal gardens.

PLAY-WELL INTRO TO STEM WITH LEGO® AGES 5-7
Let your imagination run wild with tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Build engineer-designed projects such as: trains,
helicopters, treehouses, and beam bridges. Design and build as never before, and explore your craziest ideas in a supportive
environment.

PLAY-WELL BASH 'EM BOTS WITH LEGO® AGES 8-12
Our engineering instructors guide students in this advanced Play-Well engineering camp, as they re-engineer standard
vehicles into mechanized LEGO® machines that can traverse challenging obstacles, battle against fellow bots, and take on
Play-Well Instructors!

PLAY-WELL JEDI ROBOTICS USING THE LEGO® EV3® SYSTEM AGES 8-14
Build and program robots inspired by a galaxy far, far away using the LEGO® EV3® system. Target shield generators and
respond to the Force with a full array of sensors and servos. Work in small groups to solve problems and learn about
advanced programming concepts.

PLAY-WELL JEDI ROBOTICS USING THE LEGO® WEDO® SYSTEM AGES 7-9
Build and program robots inspired by a galaxy far, far away using the LEGO® WeDo® system! Lift an X-Wing from Dagobah
swamp, program a droid-sorting factory, and land an Imperial Shuttle using motion sensors. In small groups, learn basic
programming, engineering, and robotics concepts.

PLAY-WELL MINECRAFT ENGINEERING AND ADVENTURE WITH LEGO® AGES 5-8
Get ready for a full day of LEGO® Minecraft fun! Build engineer Designed projects such as a motorized Creeper and a portal
to the Nether. Then Mine, Craft, and Build your way to fun in our unique Minecraft gaming experience, rolling dice to
gather resources, and crafting special items to help us in our adventures!

PACIFICA WRITERS COMIC BOOKS CAMP AGES 6-12
Do you have a young artist or perhaps a superhero in the household? In our comic book camp, students will learn the basics of comic writing. They will then create their very own comic books.

PACIFICA WRITERS: COMEDY AND PERFORMANCE AGES 5-15
At this camp, your child will learn about different kinds of comedy writing, some tools to make their writing funny, and some tips on performance. They will then craft jokes, essays, and stories sure to entertain the entire family.

PACIFICA WRITERS: TELL A STORY AGES 5-15
In this class, students will use their vivid imaginations to create brand new stories. They will also learn skills and concepts designed to bring their fictional spies, aliens, robots, dragons, or just everyday folk to life. By the end of the class, they will be authors with their very own books.
