Menu for the dinner includes grilled wild salmon, pulled chipotle chicken sandwiches, corn, watermelon, tangy coleslaw, fresh rolls and chocolate brownies.
The salmon dinner is $20, chicken sandwich dinner is $15 for adults and $10 for kids 12 and younger and the hot dog or garden burger dinner is $8.
Cara, Recreation Coordinator, told the Laurelhurst Blog Staff that due to the price of Salmon, the dinner price is the same as last year and can't be lowered.
She added:
Although the cost of Salmon is still on the rise, our fish vendor has agreed to keep our cost for the salmon the same as last year, so we are keeping the price of dinner at that price also. And we unfortunately didn't bring in enough revenue to break even last year and cannot afford to put ourselves in that position again this year.
Also factored into the cost of dinner are the side dishes, entertainment fees, fire permits, health permits and equipment that we have to rent in order to meet Health department guidelines for this event. It is all getting more and more expensive each year unfortunately. This event is very costly to run with very limited resources and is our only fundraiser for the year. We try to keep costs as minimal as possible.
We hope after all of the expenses are covered, there are proceeds that can go to support the community center programs, special programs such as Spring Egg Hunt and the Summer Kids Series, which don't also break even but are events our neighbors love, and scholarship opportunities for families in our neighborhood.
We are hopeful that community is willing to support us and enjoy a delicious dinner and fun evening for the kids, however if there are families who need assistance with the cost of dinners they are welcome to contact us ahead of time to arrange that. We will be offering senior discounts at the ticketing table as well.
In the future we may need to ask for more community support through sponsorships in order to keep this tradition going.
LEAP (Laurelhurst Earthquake Action Preparedness) started by neighbor John Temple, who has been working with the Laurelhurst Community Club (LCC ) on earthquake preparedness, will have a booth at the event.
Neighbors can learn about getting the neighborhood ready, setting up emergency communications, first responders, setting up triage areas, preparing households in the case of a large earthquake, how to get help and help others. For more information, email LCCearthquake@outlook.com.
