Poetry Contest Underway At NE Library

The Northeast branch (6801 35th Ave. NE), of the Seattle Public Library is having its annual poetry contest in honor of April's National Poetry Month and the public is encouraged to submit an original one-page poem in any form to the library by April 30th.


Participants can potentially win prizes and certificates, including the Wedgie grand prize trophy, and an opportunity to read their poems aloud at the awards ceremony and poetry reading on May 17 at 6pm. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards will be given in three age divisions - children, teen and adult. 

All submitted poems will be published in booklets available for viewing at the Northeast Branch.


Poetry events at the NE Branch and other libraries are listed on the library’s online calendar of eventsincluding poetry open mics, the PoetsWest Poetry Readings Calendar, and the Seattle Poet Calendar.  On April 30th at Town Hall is the Seattle Poetry Slam’s annual Grand Slam, in which the competitive performance poetry team is chosen to represent the city at the National Poetry Slam.

  • be word-processed, or neatly printed in block style.
  • fit on one page.
  • original and written within the last year.
  • may be written in any style. Poems do not have to rhyme.
