Sign Up Now For Community Center Summer Camps


Registration is underway for a wide variety of summer camps and programs offered at the Laurelhurst Community Center.

Register online, in-person at the Community Center Monday through Friday 9-2pm or by calling 684-7529.

The Spring/Summer 2013 Parks and Recreation Brochure lists all classes and programs at Laurelhurst, Magnuson and Ravenna-Eckstein Community Centers.

SUMMER ART CAMP
Ages 4-7
A fun-filled morning as children explore the many different formats of art, including watercolor, print making, and much more. The class will be four consecutive days, the class is drop-off, but parents and caregivers are welcome to stay.

POTTERY CAMP
Ages 6-12
In this class kids will learn pinch-pot, coil, slab, wheel throwing, and glazing techniques. Each day we will introduce new projects, such as musical instruments, undersea creatures, bowls, plates, and more.   Bring your imagination and enjoy all the creativity clay has to offer.

CHINESE MANDARIN CULTURE CAMP

Mandarin Experts is offering a Chinese culture camp. Campers will develop basic language skills,

ONE ON ONE BASKETBALL SUMMER HOOPS CAMP
Ages 6-12
One on One has been at the forefront of youth basketball development since 1991. Our camps combine individual skill work, skills competitions, and team play to provide a fun and productive experience. Whether
your child is just discovering basketball or you have a seasoned ball-player on your hands, our summer hoops camp will improve their individual skills and teamwork. Please bring a bagged lunch and water bottle each day.

FUTSAL SOCCER CAMP
Ages 7-12
Futsal is a fast-paced, skill-oriented game, which we believe raises the overall soccer skill level of its
participants by emphasizing technique and quick decision making. This is a great way to keep your child active and it’s a really fun game too! This is a great opportunity for players to hone their foot skills and get a feel for the fundamentals of Futsal. Each session will focus on a technical aspect of Futsal. FASHION CAMP
Ages 8-12
Create your own fashion brand! Explore how fashion designers find inspiration and learn about various areas of the industry, including merchandising, retailing, and designing. Participants will take home the skills, inspiration, and motivation to pursue their dreams and make a name for themselves in the fashion industry. We will be designing a T-shirts and a bag, including dying and printing fabric.  Please dress for mess. Please have the students bring snacks and a water bottle to camp each day. Optional: Sewing scissors, old and
new fashion magazines that can be cut up.

MAD SCIENCE
“SCIENCE SLEUTHS”   
Ages 5-11
Decode the world around you as a Mad Science Sleuth!  Use a telegraph to send secret messages to your friends.  Work in groups to make a crash-test egg helmet. Explore the universe with your own rocket and use teamwork to unearth pollution solutions.  Figure out the trick of the tight rope and sniff out scents on our Mad
Science trail. Uncover the answers to these mysteries, and more, as you become a genuine Mad Science Sleuth!

“CRIME, CHEMISTRY, AND CELLS, OH MY!”   
Ages 5-11
Go inside a scientist’s lab and discover the secrets you’ve always wondered about! Use your skills as a chemist to make your own radical reactions with batteries, nickels, and more! Compare fingerprints and discover the mysteries of DNA as you fine-tune your secret agent skills.  Make “brain goo” and check out your bones as you travel the organ trail and uncover the secrets of your own body. Become a Mad Science detective and use your forensic skills to solve “The Great Cookie Caper”!

JR. ROBOTICS WITH LEGO WEDO   
Ages 7-9
Build and program robots in this introductory Robotics class using the LEGO WeDo system. Learn basic
programming skills, simple engineering concepts, and the names of robot components. Work in small groups to complete several projects using tilt and motion sensors. This is a great way to prepare young Robotics enthusiasts for our more  advanced Robotics using LEGO programs. Camp is brought to you by Play-Well TEKnologies.

ROBOTICS WITH LEGO MINDSTORM   
Ages 9-14
Build and program robots using the new LEGO Mindstorms EV3 system! Learn about mechanical and
software design, problem solving, and teamwork skills. Work in small groups as you program and build your robot, and rise to the challenge. Control the robot to avoid obstacles, pick up and carry objects, and play sounds. Projects are structured so that students work in an open-ended, investigative environment while having fun. BAKING CAMP
Ages 6-12
Our popular baking camp is back!  Join us for a fun-filled week of baking yummy treats!  Kids will have the opportunity to design, bake and decorate their own cakes, cookies, cake pops and more! They will learn about party themes, how to read recipes and shop for ingredients.  There will be a baking showcase for parents to attend at the end of each week.
