Three Car Accident Reported Monday At Intersection Of 43rd Avenue NE And NE 41st Street
Here is information a reader sent on a recent accident in the neighborhood:
There was a three car accident at the intersection of 43rd Avenue NE and NE 41st street the afternoon of Monday June 24. My daughter and I drove past the scene of the accident which must have just happened.
The vehicles were severely damaged and I know two of them had to be towed away. The amount of damage sustained to the vehicles made it look more like a freeway accident than the kind of fender bender you would expect to see in our neighborhood, which makes me think at least one of the cars was traveling *very* fast.
Seattle Fire Department and Seattle Police Department responded. The people involved appeared to have minor injuries--bloody towels and dazed looks were evident, but they were walking around and conscious.
People need to slow down. Just in the past few months, I have felt like I'm "playing chicken" on some of our narrower streets with other drivers in the neighborhood not making eye contact and driving very fast, apparently to show me how intent they are on taking the right of way.
I will generally pull to the side and let the speed demons go first. But could you remind people that on a hill (and there are many hills in our neighborhood) that the person driving UPHILL always has the right of way?

The problem with the statement "the person driving up UPHILL has right of way" might be true but at this intersection folks driving north or south on 43rd NE can NOT see the vehicle coming up the hill.
The SDOT has yet to solve this problem, which has been causing accidents for as long as any of us can remember.
