Donations Needed To Start Phase 1 Of Yesler Swamp Trail To Include New Boardwalk

As we published in a recent postFriendsof Yesler Swamp has been awarded $64,000, from the  Seattle Department of Neighborhoods to begin building the Yesler Swamp Trail designed by SBA Landscape Architects.

You can see the plans, permits and other details at the Yesler Swamp Trail website.

The information recently sent out says:

We need to raise $16,000 as our share of the project by February 2013.

Over the past three years, many neighbors have enjoyed Swamp Walks and discovered for themselves this lovely wilderness hidden in the heart of our neighborhood. Now we need the community’s help to build the trail.

The money  will fund Construction Phase 1 of the Yesler Swamp Trail – a professionally designed, environmentally sensitive, all-weather, handicapped-accessible path and boardwalk through beautiful Yesler Swamp.

We have all the design and all necessary environmental permits in hand, and we hope to begin Phase 1 soon.

The design will have an all-weather wheelchair accessible trail with a boardwalk built over the lagoon for viewing wildlife.  You can safely bring your family and friends to see bald eagles fishing, a pair of Great Blue Heron, and an active beaver lodge. With any luck, you might even catch a glimpse of our beaver friends swimming in the lagoon! And you will be able to your  feet dry, year-around!
Please GIVE NOW! You can donate online or make your check payable to “UW Foundation –Yesler Swamp” and mail to Friends of Yesler Swamp, c/o Carrie Cone, UW Foundation, Box 354115, Seattle, 98195-4115.
