North Seattle P-Patch Holding Design Meeting Tonight

The new North Seattle P-Patch group at the North Seattle Community College, is having a meeting tonight from 6-8pm in the school cafeteria to let the community know about how to get a plot, participate in designing North Seattle's next community garden, as well as learn about volunteering on the new community P-Patch with groundbreaking set next month.

The North Seattle P-Patch has been 3 years in the making, Diana, NSCC P-Patch Project Manager, told us, and was recently awarded a $20,0000 grant through the Department of Neighborhoods Small Grants program. In September when the garden construction is complete, the P-Patch will be available as a community resource.

Tonight the committee will be sharing a public design plan meeting along with LA Studios Design Firm.

The P-Patch, which will be a working community garden, with  60 garden plots of 100 square feet, and is being developed on a 10,000 square foot parcel adjoining North 92nd street.  There will also be an outdoor learning space, greenhouse, compost facilities, beehives and a children’s play area.

"Getting a plot in the P-Patch is dependent upon the number of hours one volunteers in the design and garden construction process. We have volunteer opportunities ranging from administrative help and community outreach to actual work parties around building the garden," Diana told us.
