Free Bike Helmets Tomorrow At Children's Hospital Livable Streets Open House

Children's Hospital, along with the Laurelhurst Community Club, is hosting a Livable Streets Open House tomorrow from 10-2pm at 224 Gould Hall on the University of Washington campus (3949 15th Avenue NE).

Children’s is required to contribute nearly $4 million on transportation improvements in NE Seattle as mitigation of its approved major institution master plan.

In the Laurelhurst area, a new new traffic signal will be installed at 40th Avenue NE and Sand Point Way NE.

Some proposed Livable Streets projects include:
  • Improvements for pedestrian and bike safety on 39th Avenue NE
  • Curb extensions to reduce crossing distances and connecting to a new sidewalk on NE 50th Street and 40th Avenue NE and NE 45th Street between 40th Ave NE and 47th Ave NE
Children’s is seeking input on appropriate bike and pedestrian safety improvements, including NE Seattle’s first Greenway, intelligent transportation systems that use technology to give drivers more information and corridor improvements to increase safety.

Children’s, along with Cascade Bicycle, will have activities for kids including free helmets and fitting, bicycle safety inspections and a bike skills and thrills workshop.
