Free Nature Walk On Sunday At Yesler Swamp

Friends of Yesler Swamp is offering a free nature walk on Sunday for kids and adults from 1-2pm, titled "Yesler Swamp vs. The Invaders!"

Learn why swamp restorers are battling invasive species of plants and replacing them with plants native to the Pacific Northwest.

The Swamp Walk will be led by Elby Jones, Native Plant Steward of the Washington Native Plant Society. He holds a B.A./B.S. in Ecology from Evergreen State College and a Certificate in WetlandScience and Management from the University of Washington. He works for King County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation Division, on Cougar Mountain.

The walk will stay on the dry woodchip path. Participants should meet in the east parking lot at the Center for Urban Horticulture (3501 N.E. 41st Street).

Yesler Swamp is a 6 acre swamp area, located at the corner of NE 41st and Surber Drive, just beneath the tangle of blackberry vines, and is part of UW Botanic Garden’s Center for Urban Horticulture. 

The Friends of Yesler Swamp  is a group of Laurelhurst neighbors who have volunteered to help develop and improve a trail through the swamp as well as work on habitat restoration.
