Green Roofs Being Installed On New Buildings Of Hospital Expansion

Green roof prep work, including installation of rubber roofing and vapor barriers, which the vegetation will be planted over

Green roofs, covered in vegetation, are starting to appear on levels 2 and 8 of the new expansion on the Children's Hospital construction site.

These natural elements are "not only for healing and aesthetic purposes, but also for environmental friendliness and sustainability," the Construction Blog says.
Other benefits of the green roofs the Blog notes are:
  • reducing the amount of stormwater runoff, which lessens the stress on sewer systems during peak flow times
  • helping lp improve air quality by capturing airborne pollutants and atmospheric deposits and helping filter harmful gases in our city’s air
  • temperature-moderating effects of green roofs reduce demand on power plants, and potentially decrease the amount of CO2 and other polluting by-products being released into the air
