St. Stephens Starts Series of Evensong Services This Sunday

Leslie Martin, Director of Music at St. Stephens Church (4805 NE 45th Street), sent us email to invite the neighborhood to the first service of the fourth annual series of "Choral Evensong. "  Sunday's service starting at 5pm will feature a Bach Cantata.

Leslie writes:

St. Stephen's Choir and baroque chamber ensemble will present an undisputed masterpiece from the pen of the then-twenty-two-year-old J S Bach: "Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit" (God's time is the very best time) - scored
for 2 recorders, 2 violas da gamba, and SATB choir and soloists.

The service will begin with renowned Seattle baroque violinist Tekla Cunningham, performing Bach's monolithic "Chaconne in d minor".

Please come and bring a friend the cantata pre-view at 4:30, then join us after Evensong for a chance to meet and greet each other at a gala reception.
Evensong, a short 45 minute service, takes place the first of every month and is "chanted in the beautiful surroundings of the church, featuring inspiring anthems and soaring settings of the evening canticles – Magnificat and Nunc dimittis – which mix with shafts of light streaming through our unique and beautiful stained glass windows, making a feast for the senses."

The event is free and open to the public.  Here is the schedule through June.
