November is Adopt A Drain Month and Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) needs your help preventing flooding by keeping neighborhood storm drains clear of debris and the water flowing.
Residents are invited to participate in the Adopt-A-Drain Program during Seattle’s peak leaf-falling season. During this time SPU provides residents and business owners with free cleanup supplies – rakes, bags, gloves, shovels, brooms and dustpans.
Your help during fall is appreciated by Seattle Public Utilities crews who are responsible for nearly 80,000 storm drains.
Both the City and the individuals or groups adopting the drains make a commitment to each other to perform certain activities to keep neighborhood drains free from leaf matting, help prevent flooding and to improve water quality within our watersheds.
Call or e-mail at 206-233-7187 or adoptadrain@seattle.gov to reserve supplies or reserve them online. Supplies can be picked up at SPU’s warehouse at 3633 East Marginal Way South
Also as part of "Fall Clean" month, SPU customers are able to place additional bags alongside your yard waste container at no additional charge.
You can call (206) 684-7647 to request that the bagged leaves be picked up or to request a one-time free coupon to one of our transfer stations for free disposal.
