Four Laurelhurst Middle School Girls Holding Fun Summer Camp At The Park, Spots Still Available

Abby and Anna Larson, two of the four counselors at Camp Fantazie

Four Laurelhurst girls, two going into 7th grade and two going into 9th grade, are holding a fun summer camp for kids going into 1st to 3rd grades at Laurelhurst Park, from July 18-21, from 1-4:30pm.

This is the 3rd year the girls have been holding their camp, called Camp Fantazie. They tell us the name, Fantazie, comes from the Czech word for imagination.

The counselors are all Laurelhurst residents; Abby Larson (going into 8th grade at Hamilton) Anna Larson (going into 7th grade at Hamilton) Sarah Biely (going into 9th grade at Roosevelt) and Katie Biely (going into 7th grade at Hamilton).

They are all experienced babysitters and have completed the Better Babysitting Course.

Katie Larson, Abby and Anna's mother said that the idea for a camp came about because at one time when the family used to live in Illinois, the girls went to a camp run by a couple of middle school girls.

And she says, "since then, my girls have talked of holding their own day camp.  All of the girls love to babysit and thought this would be a fun way to extend their babysitting skills and make some more money." Katie adds the foursome, the 2 Larson sisters and the 2 Biel sisters all have a "lifelong friendship."

Katie told us that there are still spots left for campers, though parents are encouraged to sign up early by email, then a complete registration form will be sent out.

The counselors told us: "We are planning lots of fun activities, including themed days. Some of our activities include making Tie Pals and Pinaquas. We will play lots of games that will keep kids entertained, such as sponge relays, sandman, tag, and improvisations."

Snacks are provided.  And every camper will receive a t-shirt to decorate and wear at camp.

The flier also says some of the other include:
  • Name games, bubble gum art, tag, skits and t-shirt decorating
  • Wet ‘n Wild Day: Balloon toss, water relays, and Hawaiian Crafts
  • Sport Day: Bring your favorite sport toy to share
  • Relays and Dice Race - make your own Dice
  • Costume Day: Come in your favorite costumes; anything from superhero to princesses!
  • Improv games, character games, and amazing mosaic boards
The cost for the camp is $60 per camper.
