North Helpline Seeking Turkey Donations For Those In Need

Amy, Executive Director with North Helpline, Foodbank and Emergency Services located in Lake City, sent us email to help spread the word that while many people will celebrate Thankgiving with a delicious meal, "thousands of those less fortunate will have no food on their tables."

She said that in 2009, North Helpline provided 750 turkeys to families in need. And this year, due to tough economic times,  the need is much greater. "But with your help, we are confident we can distribute even more turkeys."

Amy asks that the community please consider picking up an extra 10, 12 or 14 lb. turkey for those in need. "Your generosity will ensure that more families will be able to enjoy a plentiful meal on Thanksgiving Day," she said.

And in general, North Helpline is always welcoming donations. They told us that they are seeing unprecedented need than ever before in their  food bank. For example, in just the final week of August,  they  served over 1,800 of their neighbors and the same time the year before, they only had 900 people seeking food assistance.

"As a result of this rapid increase in need, we are really struggling to keep our shelves stocked" they told us.

Here is a post we did in May on the history of North Helpline.

North Helpline is located at 12736 33rd Avenue NE in Lake City and acccepts donations Tuesday–Friday from 9:00– 4:30pm and Saturday from 8:30-1:00pm.
