Home Ransacked and Burglarized Tuesday Near Laurelhurst Elementary School

Laurelhurst Community Club Crime Prevention sent out a special alert yesterday about a burglary that happened on Tuesday between 4-10pm while the residents were not home on 47th Avenue NE a few blocks from Laurelhurst Elementary School.

"Entry may have been through an unlocked sliding door at the back of the house," the update says.

In an email sent to neighbors living around the School, Cary said "At this point, it is not determined how the burglar entered, however, they had to have been driving a vehicle large enough to hold items taken. Please be very alert to any vehicles or suspicious activity in our neighborhood.  If you did notice anything last night during this time, email me and I'll put you in contact with SPD."

Last month two neighborhood households reported Halloween decorations were stolen from their yards.

And unfortunately Seattle Community Church, on the corner of 46th Avenue NE and NE 45th Street was burglarized in August with media equipment stolen. The Church immediately tightened their security.

The last reported car prowl was Monday of this week in the 4700 block of NE 54th Street.

Crime Prevention Co-Chairs Cary Lassen and Brian McMullen advise that "with winter's darker late afternoons and evenings, it's important to give the impression that someone is home. LCC Crime Prevention recommends using indoor lights on timers and motion-sensitive outdoor lighting. A radio on normal volume is another deterrent to home invasion. Keep an eye on your neighbor's home, and call 911 if you see any suspicious vehicles or activity."
