Guided Saturday Morning Walk at the Union Bay Natural Area
And a bit more news from Connie, a Seattle Audubon Society Board Member, who writes beautiful entries posted at a kiosk and on her blog about the wildlife at the Montlake Fill also known as the Union Bay Natural Area. This area is located near the Center for Urban Horticulture in Laurelhurst.
She sent us email to let readers know that on Saturday at 8am she is leading a walk along with Native Plant Society around the Union Bay Natural Area and there is still room for more people.
She says, "I think this will be fun for the community. I am leading the walk, which begins at 8 a.m. on the west side of the Center for Urban Horticulture buildings (where the kiosk is located - the eastern terminus of Wahkiakum Lane). Professor Kern Ewing of the UW Botanic Gardens will be there, too, to give a talk about the site and its plant life. The walk will last about 2 hours, but people can leave us anytime, as their schedules dictate.
She also writes:
"Fall migration is beginning to pick up, as birds from the north begin to head south for the winter. The baby birds who hatched out here are growing up fast, getting ready for their own flights south (for some) or for their new adult lives right here (for others). Several of the newly hatched raptors who were born in nest all around the area are coming here to try to establish their territories. In the past week, we've had young Cooper's Hawks, Sharp-shinned Hawks, Merlins, and of course Bald Eagles."
