Further Street Closures Around NE 45th Viaduct and Upcoming Bike Brigades and Workshop

SDOT sent out an update on the NE 45th Street Viaduct Project as well as a notice that several streets have now been closed that connect to NE 45th.

The demolition of the west approach has been completed and now construction of the new structure has begun.

You can check out some interesting pictures of the demolition here.

SDOT has closed 21st and 22nd Avenues NE to NE 45th Street until early August in order to complete the installation of a combined sewer overflow system. Local access only from other connecting streets will be allowed.

SDOT is still on track to re-open the viaduct on September 10th.  You can find out more information here.

Also SDOT and Cascade Bicycle Club are hosting three upcoming workshop and bike brigades to teach safe bicycle practices during the viaduct closure.

The first bike brigade is tomorrow at 7:30am starting at Counterbalance Bikes (2943 NE Blakely St) going to Wallingford.

A workshop will be held on July 11th from 9-12 at Barnes and Noble in the University Village.

And another bike brigade on July 16th at 7:30am starting in Wallingford and ending at Counterbalance Bikes.

To attend the free workshop send email to commute@cascadebicycleclub.org. You can just show up for the bike brigades.

If you can’t make it to the workshop SDOT is offering a limited number of $50 scholarships, on a first come first serve basis, toward attending one of the Cascade Bicycle Club’s upcoming classes before September 1st.
