Shop This Week-end at the University Village and Make a Difference
One of our readers, Kristin Grey Sanders, who lives in the neighborhood and works at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, wanted to let everyone know about the annual Shop to Make a Difference event starting tomorrow through Sunday (May 14,15 and 16) at the University Village.
All proceeds from the sale of Cure Cards ($25 card entitles purchasers to 20 % off at participating merchants) will benefit women's cancer research at the Hutchinson Center.
You can pre--buy the Cure Card on-line or at the UVillage's center court.
Kristin tells us that "it's important to support our local community and merchants such as those at University Village which has a great mix of local, unique merchants as well as national chains that support our economy.
Shop to Make a Difference provides a wonderful venue in an amazing community to get the word out on the importance of supporting independent research institutions such as the Hutch. The Center's research touches current patients and those will will face a diagnosis in the future both locally and globally. The bone marrow transplant, pioneered by Dr. E. Donnall Thomas at the Hutch, will be used more than 60,000 times worldwide this year to treat patients - that's lifesaving research
I'm passionate about supporting financially and through my 10 year career at the Center. Aggregate support from events such as Shop to Make a Difference is critical to the Center's ability to fund initial stage research that government grants won't cover without proof of concept. Events such as this is how we fund innovative, lifesaving research!"
Seattle Cancer Care Alliance’s mammography van will be on site at Shop to Make a Difference May 14 and 15 providing mammography services from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Learn more and schedule an appointment here.
