Laurelhurst Elementary School Wins Washington Achievement Award

Laurelhurst Elementary School is the recipient of the 2009 Washington Achievement Award.

This award, decided by The Office Of The Superintendant of Public Instruction (OSPE) and State Board of Education (SBE), honors "schools for overall excellence and special recognition in: language arts, math, science, graduation rate and gifted education.

Schools are selected based on a statewide assessment data for the three previous years. This data is analyzed using the school Accountability Index and methodology approved by both OSPI and the SBE," the website says.

The award is important because it identifies the most "successful school and shines a light on some of the best practices that are making that success possible."

Laurelhurst Elementary School is being recognized for overall excellence.

The Washington Achievement Award is given to elementary, middle, high and comprehensive schools.

Other recipients of this award within Seattle Public Schools are: John Hay, McGilvra, Beacon Hill, Bryant, Washington
Middle School and Mercer Middle School.

You can read more about the accountability index here and general information about the award here.

Congratulations to Laurelhurst Elementary School!
