A neighborhood resident wrote in to us wanting readers to know to be very mindful of car prowling in our neighbohrood.
Their car, which was parked in front of their house one block north and just east of Children's Hospital, was entered and several things were stolen on February 20th around midnight. Unfortunately the car was not locked and there was no evidence of forced entry.
The resident talked with Diane Horswill, NE Crime Prevention Coordinator who said "anything suspicious should be reported immediately by calling 911 and asking for non-emergency service. (Car break-in, repeated graffiti, late night prowlers, etc.)
She also said most minor incidents are never reported, and it would be VERY helpful to the police to know when and where these things occur so they can discern a pattern. This would enable them to patrol the area much more effectively, and we would all benefit," the neighbor writes in her email to us.
Incidents can also be reported on-line.
Diane also mentioned to the neighbor she would come in person to someone's home (or other location) and describe crime prevention efforts currently in place (free of charge) and how to set up a Block Watch system on any block. The Block Watch Captain obtains the name, address and phone number of everyone on the block and sends out emails of incidents and safety related issues for the block.
Diane's email address is diane.horswill@seattle.gov.
