Tonight at 6:30pm, the NE Branch of the Seattle Public Library will host a one hour preview of Il Trovotore by Giuseppe Verdi and accompanied by recorded music from the opera.
Staff members from Seattle Opera will be available to answer questions as well as provide background information on the opera.
This is a free event and is open to the public. Registration is not needed. Doors will open 15 minutes before the program.
From the Seattle Public Library website, "Il Trovatore" has swift action, intense pathos, and more hit songs than any opera but "Carmen," All these things combine to make this hot-blooded story of love, hate, revenge, and death a spectacle of sound.A gypsy mother's love clashes with a dark secret from her past in this suspenseful romantic drama. The entire final act is considered an opera highlight. Swordplay, poison, late night abductions, and a gypsy curse add to the overall intrigue. The score boasts a very high quota of recognizable music: rousing choruses, lilting gypsy tunes, and familiar crowd-pleasing hits."
Here is some more history of the opera from Wikipedia.
This preview is also being held at four other Seattle Public Libraries.
Il Trovotore opens January 16th at Marion Oliver Mc Hall. Go here for a complete schedule of the season as well as to buy tickets.

What a great event! I'm sorry I missed out on it. Anyone know if there was a very large crowd?
