First Around the World Flight Celebration at Sand Point on Sunday

Celebrate the landing of the first flight around the world made on Sand Point (now Magnuson Park) on September 28, 1924. 85 years ago!

In 1924 four Douglas World Cruisers and eight American crewmen set out from Seattle, Washington, to attempt the first around-the-world airplane flight. One hundred seventy-five days later on September 28, 1924 three of the aircraft and crews became the first to circumnavigate earth.

Join fellow community members this Sunday, September 27th on the shores of Pontiac Bay, the former Sand Point Navy Basee to celebrate this historic landing.

The flyer says:
2-3pm: Ballard Sedentary Sousa Band will play
3-4pm: Story about the Original Flight Story and Planned Flight Re-Enactment
4pm: Guided Walk-About of the Site and Navy Base

The celebration will also kick off the project for the Navy Support Museum.

"We will soon celebrate the listing of the Naval Station on the State and Federal List of Historic Sites" the poster says.

Check out the details of this fun event.
