NE Library to Close in a Few Weeks

Just a heads up in case you didn't know, that the NE Library will close August 23rd through early October (no exact date yet) for "refurbishing to make it easier for customers to pick up items on hold."

The SPL website says, "The 15,000-square-foot branch handles more hold requests than almost any other branch, and demand has exceeded available space. Customers now must check several places for their holds, and overflow items waiting to be picked up are stacked on tables near the lobby."

The book drop will also be closed. Probably the next closest branch is the UDistrict one. There is also the Greenlake and Montlake and Northgate branches.

The NE Library branch went through a remodel in 2004 through the "Libraries for All" building program. The expansion more than doubled the existing 7,000 plus square feet according to the Library website.

Guess foot traffic has really increased in only 5 years. That's great. It's a comfortable library, but it will be fun now to check out some of the others in the area. A neighbor of a staffer raves about the Montlake branch, only open for 3 years now. Greenlake one was renovated 3 years ago and the UDistrict branch went through remodeling only 2 years ago and is very nice.

Let us know which ones you visit. Happy reading!
