Just a Few More Days to Visit a City Library Before They Close

Only a few more days to pick up your books, CDs, DVDs or use the computers at all city library branches before they close next week.

The libraries will be closed from Monday, Aug. 31 through Monday, Sept. 7 (Labor Day) "due to citywide budget cuts" as the SPL website says.

The closure will save the library system about $655,000.

University District library’s hours for the rest of this week are here.

A staffer was in the Montlake library yesterday and he said the shelves were just overflowing with reserved books. He said he'd never seen anything like it! Looks like people stocking up on books before next week.

Also if your child hasn't received their free book for the Summer Reading Program yet, there is still time. Just go into any branch (except the Northeast Library branch whish is closed) by Sunday with your child's reading log, and they can pick out a book. They also get to have their name on a wall with other kid's names who have participated in the program. What a good deal!
