Anyone Game for PARKing Day?
The fourth annual PARK(ing) Day is coming up on September 18th from 8-5pm and the registration deadline is Friday.
What is it you ask? It's an annual, world-wide event in which community members, activists, artists and everyday citizens all work together to transform city-wide parking spots into temporary public parks – thus called “PARK(ing)” Day.
PARKing day was originally started by San Francisco art and design collective Rebar with the intention of showcasing how cities use their urban public space in a creative and appealing way.
Seattle’s PARK(ing) Day is being organized by Feet First, a Seattle-based advocacy organization dedicated to promoting walkable communities. Their event page says "Make a park, host a park, play in a park, walk by a park."
In 2008 Seattle hosted 32 (PARK)ing spaces. This year organizers hope to get over 50! And they’re looking for community members to bring this event to neighborhoods all over the city, including Laurelhurst.
If you're up for this, the registration fee is only $10 and here are some guidelines
