What is That Very Loud Noise?
The last 3 days there has been a very very loud noise, sounding like it is just next door. But with further investigation it is actually a few miles away, at the UW, just south of the soccer fields directly across the street from the UVillage. You can see the big orange crane structure and several excavators, etc.
In speaking with one of the head construction people, he told a staff member that the colvert or pipe that runs underneath the road where Ravenna Creek is has over time collapsed. The crew is in the process of building a dam upstream and downstream to then replace the colvert.
He said "It was much harder than we thought." Apparently drilling and pounding down to put the dam in is the hardest part.
We are told they should be done today, if not tomorrow at the latest. He said that he has heard from many people nowhere near the site that it is very loud as he said sounds carries through the ground.
Hopefully the pounding will be done today or tomorrow. The project will still continue with laying the pipes, etc. however the construction person said there will be no more loud noise with the remainder of the project.

Thanks for doing legwork and finding out about this noise. Many neighbors were out asking eachother what was going on and it was hard to figure out where the noise was coming from. Thanks again! Great blog.
