Outdoor Movies Begin At Magnuson Park Suddenly Cancelled For Safety Reasons

Outdoor movies at Magnuson Park has been cancelled for the rest of the summer.

Epic Events sent out this information:  

The Outdoor Movies at Magnuson Park series in Seattle has been cancelled for 2017 due to security concerns that have evolved into public safety issues at Magnuson Park. This includes previously scheduled events on Thursdays; July 27, Aug. 3, Aug. 10, Aug. 17 and Aug. 24. 

Epic Events would like to thank all of their fans, sponsors and partners who have supported and enjoyed these events over the last six years. A variety of venues will be considered for the continuation of this series in 2018 and beyond.

The Facebook page says:

Due to security concerns that have evolved into public safety issues at Magnuson Park, we feel that it is in the best interest of our attendees, staff, sponsors, partners and fans that we no longer continue these events in 2017.

KIRO reported that Epic President, Doug Borneman, told the news station by phone that "there were numerous incidents on Thursday, July 20th, and that thefts and violence occurred."

The report continues saying that "Online records show that Seattle Police took a robbery report that night, but the report did not provide any details."

The outdoor movies have been held for the last six years on Thursday evenings for $5 and also included various food trucks, entertainment and trivia.

Epic Events also runs the Movies@Marymoor Park in Redmond and two other outdoor movie events in Bellingham and Spokane.

Outdoor Movies At Magnuson Start Thursday

Movies at Magnuson Park starts Thursday through August 28 at 7pm.

The information says:

Come to Magnuson Park (7400 Sand Point Way NE) on Thursday evenings to watch feature big screen flicks, movie trivia and Seattle’s best food trucks including hot food, sandwiches, snacks, kettle corn, sweet treats, ice cream and coffee. Free movie seating is available following the entertainment and prize giveaways at dusk. Parking is free in the park.  Our outdoor cinema packing list includes low back lawn chairs or blankets, friends, family, dogs and money for fun and food.  At each event a lucky winner and their crew will win the PEMCO Seat Upgrade and be treated to an awesome package of treats just in time for the movie.

Magnuson Summer Outdoor Movies Start tomorrow

The annual summer Magnuson Park Outdoor Movies start tomorrow.

Here is the line-up:
 July 12: “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”
July 19: “The Adventures of Tintin”
July 26: "The Help”
August 2:  “Forrest Gump”
August 9:  “The Lion King”
August 16:  “Back to the Future’
August 23: “Monty Python & the Holy Grail”
August 30:  “The Goonies”

The movies are shown on a 40-foot inflatable movie screen. Lawn chairs, blankets and warm clothes are encouraged for a comfortable evening in the park and dogs are welcome.  There will be food trucks as well as costume contests.

Before each show circus performers, Justin Credible and Jules McEvoy a.k.a. One Fine Fool  will do tricks such as sword swallowing, juggling clubs, knives, hat tricks, mime, and general magic.

Pre-movie seating is $5 and starts at 7 p.m.  The movies start at dusk.
