SDOT published this information:
Between 10 p.m. Friday, July 24, and 5 a.m. Monday, July 27, crews will close northbound Montlake Boulevard between East Lake Washington Boulevard and East Hamlin Street. Crews will use this closure to relocate a water line under the boulevard, just south of East Hamlin Street.
The water line is part of the highway’s new fire and life safety system and must be moved to construct the future Montlake lid. To reduce the number of disruptions to the public from construction, crews will work around the clock.
Here’s what travelers should expect:
- All lanes of northbound Montlake Boulevard will be closed between East Lake Washington Boulevard and East Hamlin Street, with traffic detoured to the University Bridge.
- Southbound Montlake Boulevard will be reduced to one lane in the same area.
- The westbound SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard will be closed, but all other on- and off-ramps, including the westbound off-ramp to Lake Washington Boulevard, will stay open.
- The sidewalk on the east side of Montlake Boulevard will be closed, with a detour to use the sidewalk on the west side of the street.
- The portion of the SR 520 Trail between Montlake Boulevard and East Park Drive East will be closed. The trail across Lake Washington and the temporary bicycle and pedestrian connection under SR 520 will remain open.
Here’s what neighbors should expect:
- Throughout the weekend, neighbors will hear noise from excavation equipment such as concrete saws and backhoes, and should expect dust and louder-than-usual nighttime construction noise. This nighttime work will be performed under a temporary noise variance (TNV) from the city of Seattle. The TNV allows work between the hours of 10 p.m. and 9 a.m. to exceed the noise limits granted under the project’s Major Public Projects Construction Noise Variance.
- July 25 early morning water outage:
- A small group of Seattle Public Utility (SPU) customers will experience a temporary water outage to allow crews to perform the water main work. The outage is tentatively scheduled to begin just after midnight the morning of July 25 and last for about nine hours. Affected customers will be contacted directly by SPU no later than July 20. SPU customers can also check the utility’s water outage map for additional information and updates.
- If you have questions or experience problems with water service, contact SPU’s 24/7 Operations Response Center at 206-386-1800.
As always, construction schedules are dynamic and subject to change. Check the Construction Corner map for the latest updates.
