The 8th annual neighborhood Turkey Trot, a casual and informal 5K Fun Run/Walk that zig zagged through Laurelhurst following a course map given at the start, had over 400 participants this year
The coordinators of the event sent the Laurelhurst Blog this update:
285 people made it across the finish line in under 45 minutes to take part in the raffle of 10 pies from Metropolitan Market.
We raised $1,500 and the University Food bank estimated we brought in 1,200 pounds of non perishable food.Katie, a Laurelhurst native, said she got the idea for a Turkey Trot from when she lived in Glen Ellyn, a small town, outside of Chicago for a few years before returning to the neighborhood. She said that the town has of local events, including their Annual Turkey Trot. So eight years ago, Kate's husband, Brian, suggested they host a fun run, which they mirrored after the Glen Ellyn event.
