SEATTLE STUDENTS NOW GET LIBRARY CARDS WITH THEIR STUDENT IDS
Library Link is a partnership between The Seattle Public Library and Seattle Public Schools where students and teachers automatically receive electronic Library cards.
Initially, this was a pilot program launched in 2016 with several middle and high schools and one K-8 school. We have now expanded access to all 6th-12th graders at Seattle Public Schools, and to teachers at all K-8, middle and high schools.
These e-cards give access to all of our electronic resources including Overdrive, Hoopla and all of our databases accessible with a Library card. One of the advantages of an e-card is that no fines or fees can occur, so students will always be able to access our online resources.
"The e-card is a way to provide some increased equity in access to resources for our students in Seattle," said Blythe Summers, supervising librarian. "Having an ‘automatic’ card allows teachers to guide students to these resources in the classroom, knowing that all of their students will have an account."
Students who would like to check out physical materials or use a computer at the Library are welcome to apply for a regular Library card.
The Library supports children and youth by giving them opportunities to excel and learn through our educational resources, classes and staff assistance. We help level the playing field for underserved populations by forming a strong partnership with Seattle Public Schools to offer support with student success.
